Replacing street trees

Respect residents by giving them plenty of notice when trees are to be trimmed or removed. Consult on replacement trees rather than just removing them or replacing them with different species.

Why is this important?

Brockley is in the middle of a radical tree-trimming and removal programme. This came without any warning to residents. The trees around the Aspinall Road area of Brockley are famous for their spring blossom and their fruits feed hundreds of birds in the area. They are a beautiful and particular feature of the area. Children have played in them and elderly people sit out in spring to enjoy the blossom. They bring protection to properties from hot sun in the summer and a sense of partial privacy in built-up areas. Where they are replaced, the species are not consistent. They are vital in this over-polluted city.
