SAVE HACKNEY'S OLD BOATERS' SCHOOLHOUSE!

Please help save this beautiful Grade II listed Boaters' Schoolhouse in Hackney from being developed to private residential use.

This Early-Victorian building is a unique part our industrial heritage and was originally used to teach the children of bargee families. Please save it so it can be used as a community resource and Heritage Arts Centre and not turned into two (x2) small overpriced one-bedroom flats!

Why is this important?

It is important to celebrate and commemorate the social history of the past and the community education of the future.

The site has English Heritage and National Lottery Funded support to proceed forward with a preservation project and more support is forthcoming!

The freeholder and Hackney Council promised the site as a Heritage and Arts Centre as early as 2009, but are now reneging on that promise in acquiescing to the freeholder's desires to profit from the site's transfer to residential use.

If you have time, register your support in favour of saving the building for Heritage Community use to: [email protected]. And - if you are a Hackney resident - write to your local ward councillor!

Stop the Greed! Save the Schoolhouse!

How it will be delivered

The petition will be delivered by hand to Hackney Town Hall

HACKNEY COUNCIL FORCED TO DELAY!

Hackney Council have been forced - at the 11th hour - to delay hearing the case for the Old Schoolhouse to be turned into two small overpriced flats at their Planning Meeting.

There are at least six different breeches to procedure or protocol in this matter but in the end they had to admit that no environmental survey had been carried out. This will delay the matter from reappearing by some weeks and will give the campaign strength in formation. SUPPORT US!

THE SCHOOLHOUSE NEEDS YOU!

The item was raised under the radar and without due process!
They are relying on Planning Notices posted in 2013!
Disgusting. Shame on you Hackney!
