To: John Lewis Partnership and their Huntingdon store landlord

Save Huntingdon Waitrose

Consider the opinions and feelings of the thousands of shoppers who use the Huntingdon Waitrose store. It has been announced that the John Lewis Partnership is "proposing to close the shop in the autumn, subject to consulting with the partners (employees) who work there".

Why is this important?

The High Street, in the town of Huntingdon, has suffered with many shops having to close due to high rents making it difficult for shops to remain profitable. It is hoped the JLP will work to find a solution, with the present landlord, to keep this store open, so it may continue to serve the people of the Huntingdonshire District as it has done for the last 40 years.

I have had an e-mail from Waitrose. Sadly, it is too long to fit onto this website, as I can only use 1,000 characters. But if you follow this link, you can read it in full.

This weekend, we will have a small team of petition collectors in town to assist with adding "written" names to the electronic ones on here. If you want to help, please contact me on [email protected].

I have written again to Waitrose senior management to try to get a meeting with them. I will update later this week. Meanwhile, we have team of "kindred spirits". Waitrose in Staines face similar closure threats - you might like to support their efforts.

To everyone who has signed this petition already - thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. I went to bed in the early hours of Monday, and there was one name on it. Mine. I looked in at 8.00 am, and there were 20 names - entirely Facebook friends of mine or neighbours.

What has happened since has been amazing. The Hunts Post will be monitoring the story in this week's edition. BBC Radio Cambridgeshire will be doing a live interview with me at around 7.15 on Tuesday morning on the Dotty McLeod Breakfast Show.

We ned to be able to capture hand-written signatures. Can you help? Can you share the link to the website with all your e-mail contacts? I can't do it on my own, because NONE OF US IS AS SMART AS ALL OF US. Failure is not an option unless the shutters come down for the final time.

If you use Twitter or Facebook, please spread the word.

I said that just after midnight, we started out with 1 name. It is 10.00 pm - 22 hours on, and we have 432.
