Stop cuts to Citizens Advice in Suffolk19/02/19 We were delighted and surprised by an announcement yesterday by Suffolk County Council about our funding for 2019/2020. The Council will still reduce its funding to Citizens Advice by half in 2019/2020, but two Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) will make up the shortfall [1]. CCGs are the NHS bodies responsible for commissioning health care services in their local area. This is a great result and on behalf of our clients we want to thank you for signing our petition and for lobbying local councillors. Citizens Advice is often the only place to which someone in need can turn for help. That help is vital to those that need it. Your support for our campaign to keep the service going made all the difference. Still, this funding is only for one year. The people who signed our petition asked the County Council to commit to ongoing funding for the Citizens Advice service in Suffolk. Your backing has made such a difference to us, and we will let you know about any new developments. Citizens Advice charities in Suffolk6,577 SignaturesCreated by Citizens Advice in Suffolk

Ask the Mayor to support a UK HIV/AIDS Memorial in London8/2/17 - We Won! Great news this morning, the London Assembly unanimously voted to support us to establish a UK AIDS Memorial in London. A long way to go but this is a very important first step forwards. "Thanks to some lovely moving speeches from Assembly Members every single one was won over and it was voted for unanimously. A brilliant result and shows the campaign has real support here!" said Sian Berry. Thanks so much to everyone who signed the petition and especially to Sian Berry (Greens), Caroline Pidgeon (Liberal Democrats), Stephen Twigg (Labour), GMFA and 38 Degrees who paved the way for this to get this far. This is long over due, we must remember those 21,0000 British citizens who lost their lives, as well as all those worldwide. AIDS is not over. Many live with HIV and new infections are found each day. We must fight on together. London can one day stand proud with so many other cities worldwide, who already have built AIDS memorials. Goodwin Sands SOS - Stop the Dredge!Great news! 03/11/22 The news we have all been waiting for has at last arrived! The Port of Dover recently announced that it has abandoned its plans to dredge the Goodwin Sands for landfill for their port development. As you can imagine, after six and a half years of campaigning this news is extremely welcome as it clearly shows that development does not need to come at the expense of the environment. We would like to thank you all for your encouragement, donations and support, without which we would not have achieved this positive outcome. This campaign has definitely been a huge joint effort. We would like to recognise the support provided by our MP Natalie Elphicke who understood both the need for the port development and our concerns for the marine environment. We have no doubt that she was instrumental in encouraging the Port of Dover to source the necessary landfill elsewhere. Despite this result being a vindication of all we have fought for, we know this is just a battle won, not the whole war and we will not be resting on our laurels. We are acutely aware that assurances need to be sought from all the major stakeholders including The Crown Estate, the Environment Agency and the Marine Management Organisation that they will never allow the Goodwins to be exploited ever again. Thank you again for staying with us over the past six years and we look forward to keeping you updated on our continued work to Save Our Sands. Best wishes, Joanna and Fiona16,964 SignaturesCreated by Joanna Thomson

Declare a Climate EmergencyWe won! The council caved in to pressure and the effort of so many people including about 900 in total who signed the petition both on and off line, to all our activists who braved the cold outside Highland Council buildings and particularly the hard work of Cllr Pippa Hadley submitting the amendment (seconded by Cllr Andrew Baxter) and declared a climate and ecological emergency and agreed to work towards a carbon neutral highlands by 2025. Give a home to asylum seekers in YorkUPDATE: 17/09/15 We have handed in our petition yesterday and with over 1300 signatures it felt great. What seemed like a lot of empty words, by our head of York Council Chris Steward, was challenged and questioned by other 38degrees members and myself. Last night the council announced to take on 60 refugees over the next five years. A great start but we still need to keep behind it to make sure we start acting now and not only within the next five years. We also asked Councillor Steward as our representative to the government to push for quick action which will take place now and won't be delayed longer. He told us the answer to most of the questions will be he doesn't know yet. So let's keep up the good work to make sure actions speak louder than words. Here is a picture of the handover yesterday: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7617572@N07/21455441602/in/photostream/ A press article regarding the handover: http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/13738936.1_200_sign_petition_calling_for_York_to_do_more_to_help_refugees/ And the link to my interview on BBC Radio York yesterday morning. Listen to it at about 1h13mins in: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p031cr16#play Thank you again so much for your support. The petition would have been nothing without you!
