  • Help Shankea obtain indefinite leave to stay in the UK
26/12/20 Dear Supporters, Shankea has sent you all this message: "It is with great delight that I can inform you all that I have been granted my legal right to remain in the UK. After 18 years of applications, rejections and tears, I can now breathe and live. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you who signed and shared the petition. It goes without saying, I have been through a lot and am currently processing the news. As I embark on my new journey, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers." It is truly great news that Shankea can now, at the age of 31, return to her education or get a job; something she could only previously dream of. She no longer has to fear that knock on the door. But it should never have happened. The system that should have taken care of her, and thousands of others, is broken. Today, we rejoice for Shankea. Tomorrow, we will remember the others who are still fighting for their freedom to live in the country they call home.

  • Save Our Kids Free Meals in Newham
Today Newham Council have backed down and will no longer cut the Eat for Free scheme which gives a hot meal in term time to about 14,000 children (see the link below). My heartfelt thanks to all of you who signed and shared the petition and made this change happen. The best of our councillors joined with us in speaking out, as did East Ham MP Stephen Timms. The success of the campaign shows that collectively we can make a difference and stand up against cuts. Our children deserve better and we fought for them. Thank you. https://www.newham.gov.uk/news/article/577/newham-s-flagship-eat-for-free-scheme-guaranteed-by-the-mayor

  • Block New Coal Licences for Cumbria
The Coal Authority has blocked the licences for the Cumbrian Coal Mine! Good News! Now we just need the Coal Authority to insist that the developers hand back the Haig Mining Museum and Land to the people of Whitehaven. The Coal Authority gave the Heritage Lottery funded Museum and land to West Cumbria Mining for £1.....an untold scandal behind the good news.

  • NO CUTS at Homerton hospital
The trust stepped in and really pressurised the private company (ISS). The reduction in staffing numbers they proposed in the beginning was drastically reduced, and they only let a few people go in the end, and most of these were people were wanted voluntary redundancy for whatever reason. This is a massive reduction from the 89 proposed in the beginning. They made no cuts to security staff. However in the catering department ISS proposed that they would start to cut the canteen at 2.30pm during the day and that it wouldn't be open on the weekend at all any more - a disaster in a 24 hour working hospital! We started an internal campaign about this.
