Successful Campaigns

8/12/14 - Thanks to all your support online and in person, at the petition signing events and protest, we were able to reach The Mayor Luthfur Rahman and the Cabinet, who on 3rd December 2014 announced that all 4 public nurseries i.e Queen Mary, Mary Sambrook, John Smith and Overland are to stay open!

UPDATE - 15/08/14 We have won! Mears Group have removed their threat of derecognising unions including the GMB. It seems the speed the petition was put together, how quickly it gained signatures, the joint letter from 3 would be Labour MPs, the threat of a demostration, and good work by GMB officials, saw Mears Group quickly reverse its decision under mounting pressure. Well done one and all!

UPDATE 24/05/2017: We won! The council met last night and decided resoundingly to reject the proposals. Members of the public can still ask questions at meetings, and evening meetings will stay in place.

01/02/18 THE ANCHOR IS BACK! We’re proud to say that the Deptford Anchor has finally returned, to resume its role as an iconic landmark. The petition is now closed as the wishes of hundreds of Deptford people have finally been honoured. Congratulations! WE ALL DID IT! Deptford Is Forever & The Deptford Society

We managed to get one of the main aims of our petition to retain Dr's in our hospital. We will continue to monitor any changes and if necessary we will act again to prevent any further downgrading of services to our local hospital at Hexham

UPDATE - 02/07/15 - A big thank you to everyone who signed our save the Hopper petition, a fine example that people power can make a real difference. The service is now safe until April next year, but we must keep a very close eye, to ensure that the service is funded in the next financial year. B&Q have responded to the petition and made a donation of £8,000. Alex, Colin, Sarah and the rest of the team would like to thank everyone who supported putting pressure on B&Q to make a donation and of course to B&Q for then donating £8,000. The Daily Mirror who ran the B&Q promotion in question are also donating £1,000!

20/10/14 Stockport CCG has disclosed that two important GP Enhanced Services will continue to be provided exclusively by doctors’ surgeries. Spirometry (lung testing) and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring were re-procured during the summer without any contracts going to the private sector.

The Coal Authority has blocked the licences for the Cumbrian Coal Mine! Good News! Now we just need the Coal Authority to insist that the developers hand back the Haig Mining Museum and Land to the people of Whitehaven. The Coal Authority gave the Heritage Lottery funded Museum and land to West Cumbria Mining for £1.....an untold scandal behind the good news.
