Televised 3pm Football Kick-Offs
Since the 60s there has been a ban on football matches being televised during the hours of 2:45 and 5:15 on Saturday in the UK. The rule was put in place due by the Football league and then Burnley FC chairman Bob Lord. they feared that games shown on tv would reduce attendances at football grounds.
Why is this important?
There is zero proof that televised games reduce attendances. It is an out of date rule that has no place in football anymore. The ban encourages fans to seek other means to watch these games including illegal streams over the internet as the games are televised in other countries. Why should other countries get to watch our league games while we have a ridiculous blackout?
Allowing more games to be shown can only be a positive. It makes more games available for the likes of SKY and BT to bid on thus increasing the money the leagues receive. These funds could benefit smaller teams across all leagues. Giving UK football fans a legal way to watch said games would also decrease the amount of people seeking illegal streams to view matches.
