Bring Isle of Skye into 21st century tourism

Bring Isle of Skye into 21st century tourism

The Isle of Skye is currently seeing a massive increase in tourist visitor numbers. Meanwhile the experience of these visitors is severely hampered by a lack of investment in road maintenance, car parking spaces for main attractions and very poor signage. I would like to see central and local government combine to produce extra money to give the hundreds of thousands of visitors flocking to the island an improved experience

Why is this important?

As Scotland moves forward to whatever it's new future entails the fact that the oil industry is in the doldrums and Scotland is a world class destination means tourism will only become more important.
The Isle of Skye, whilst becoming ever more popular with visitors, is currently under resourced to meet growing demand to visit the island.
This must be addressed to make sure a real opportunity for Scotland's future is met.

Reasons for signing

  • skye is a magnificent island. it is just a pity that there seems to be a lack of money spent on roads car parks toilets etc.. these basic needs must be managed carefully as i appreciate there is a fine line not to be crossed so as to keep the beauty of the island. i feel skye is at a t junction as its future is concerned as a lot of skyes people rely on tourism for a living.so with some basic improvements i believe skye will have a bright future.
  • I don't wish any harm onto the campsites at all, but Skye needs to provide a (couple of) plain service station for motorhomers for water and waste disposal. I often visit Skye out of season in late autumn and winter (Oct-Jan), nowadays by motorhome.
  • Roads are a disgrace. Customer service is appalling and prices are extortionate. Tourists should be handed leaflets at every opportunity on how drive on single track roads, passing places are for overtaking as well as allowing others to pass.
