Independent Enquiry into BBC bias regards Scottish Independence Referendum

Independent Enquiry into BBC bias regards Scottish Independence Referendum

Look into the activities and complaints of bias/governmental influence around the Scottish Independence referendum

Why is this important?

There is a suggestion that the BBC may be being used to promulgate propaganda in this affair, may not be unbiased or may be being coerced or influenced to serve one particular agenda. This suggestion should be investigated and BBC conduct explored in the light of their charter.

Reasons for signing

  • BBC was so biasly against the 'yes' side during the Scottish referendum campaign that even my, then 84 year old, granny commented on it. If you knew how painfully niave and unobservant my granny normally is, you'd realise what a big deal that was.
  • During the recent council elections the party in 2nd place was virtually declared to have won! Friends in England had to be told that the SNP had won overall, as they had been led to believe otherwise by the BBC. In Scotland we deserve truthful, honest reporting of our politics, and I am greatly worried that the BBC would not be capable of this in the event of a second independence referendum.
  • As a journalist I've seen how BBC news has lost balanced reporting & often not even checked facts. In coverage of previous referendum it seemed like reporters never left London or relied on one pro-Union news feed. BBC need courage of real unbiased reporting from on ground reporters. Same has happened with coverage of Brexit. Unless our BBC goes back to basics & fights for the truth, not simply regurgitating propaganda, it will be sold to highest bidder.

Hi Everyone sorry it's been so long with no news but I only heard back from BBC recently. I have progressed through their complains procedure to no avail so far but I had to do it to get to the "BBC Trust" The petition is now at the appeal to the trust this was the last correspondence I heard from BBC: Dear Mr MOORE

Reference CAS-2948883-WRND1N summarized: "NO WE WERE NOT BIAS IN OUR COVERAGE OF INDYREF" If you wish to submit an appeal you must write within 20 working days of receiving this reply, explaining why you wish to appeal. You can contact the BBC Trust at 180 Great Portland Street, London W1W 5QZ, or by emailing trust.editorial@bbc.co.uk.

So If you feel like I do that you would like to add your own dismay at the way the petition and complaint have been handled please as they say ...fire in! email trust.editorial@bbc.co.uk
