PAY NURSES AND HCA's WHAT THE INDEPENDENT REVIEW BODY RECOMMENDED.
On 13 March 2014 the Government overturned the recommendation by the independent Pay Review Body that nurses and health care support workers should get the 1% cost of living increase. Last year, the Chancellor said it was affordable so why not accept the recommendation now?
The NHS under spent by £3 billion last year and that money was given back to the Treasury so they definitely have enough to cover a 1% pay rise and much more beyond.
This decision means that less than half of nursing staff at the top of their pay increment will get a 1% rise. Other nursing staff will get what they are contractually entitled to, if they can demonstrate they have developed their skills in the previous year but not the 1% cost of living increase. This decision will affect around 600,000 NHS staff.
Why is this important?
This is a totally unnecessary decision and shows the Government does not value hard working nurses and health care support workers and are relying on their good nature and dedication to just accept it.
A recent pay review body recommendation to increase MP’s salaries was accepted but then it was MP’s voting for their own pay increase!
