Stop plans to house sex offenders at Thorn Cross, Warrington
The Warrington Guardian is calling for the Government to make a u-turn over plans to house sex offenders in the open prison at HMP Thorn Cross prison in Appleton Thorn, Warrington.
Why is this important?
Thorn Cross prison is just across the road from a primary school and close to two nurseries in the small village of Appleton Thorn.
Furthermore, no consultation has taken place with nearby residents or the local authorities and politicians prior to the decision being made.
In 2012 the public were reassured that those convicted of sex crimes would not be eligible to be moved to the open prison.
Now convicted sex offenders could serve the remainder of their custodial sentences there ā despite a commitment from the Government that this would never happen.
