Lunch time on the 22nd November Jenny Chalmers and I had a site meeting with Councillor John Howard one of the Ward Councillors and Councillor Jas Athwal Leader of Redbridge Council, both councillors were very receptive to the Haul Road cause noting the terrible loss of habitat in the Country Park area and the potential effects on protected wildlife. Cllr Athwal stated that he was going to discuss the situation with senior officers of the Council. In the evening we had the deputation booked for the full Council Meeting at Ilford Town Hall six of us took to the Council Chamber floor where Jenny gave the deputation address, fitting in all the main points within the allocated two minutes. A series of question and answers followed from the assembled Councillors when finally Cllr Athwal asked the final question “My question is, if we move the haul road to the area that you suggested, would that meet your requirements?” I replied “It is a compromise, from our perspective that is the least evil route.” Cllr Athwal replied “Done!” There were smiles from the assembled Councillors and jubilation from the supporters that braved the cold night to be in the gallery. So we have done it, people power has won the day for nature conservation. So thank you all for your support I don't think we could of done it without you! UPDATE: 29/03/16 - We Won! Many thanks to all those of you who signed the petition, it received 6,202 signatures! And it worked. The petition helped to support our MP, Keir Starmer, in voting against the HS2 bill in the House of Commons last week. We all know that the borough of Camden will suffer terrible damage from the effects of HS2 for over 20 years. In order to vote against HS2, both of Camden's MPs were obliged to defy a three line whip. We are immensely grateful both to Keir Starmer and to Tulip Siddiq (MP for Hampstead and Kilburn) for putting their constituents' interests first. Thank you Keir and thank you Tulip for standing by us in these dificult times.

19/2/15 update: Portsmouth City Council has now overturned its three-year opposition to our demand and has at last issued a specific type of legal Repairs Notice specifying how the pier must be safeguarded for the future. This was a stunning result brought about by YOU and more than 12,600 other people signing our petition – including more than 7,000 on 38 Degrees.

UPDATE: 16/03/16 - We won! Last night we heard the great news that Bristol council voted in favour of our motion. Survivors of domestic abuse in Bristol are now to be given top priority to be rehoused. Thank you all so so much for your support. Can't quite believe it, hasn't sunk in yet.

19/12/2014: Following the threat of a legal challenge by a 10 year old boy with Morquio, NHS England have announced that they are abandoning the scorecard and are going back to the drawing-board on their approval process. We are really pleased that the petition and threat of legal action has forced NHS England to develop a fair decision making process for ultra-rare diseases - thank you to everyone who signed.
