Tunnock's Stop Using Palm Oil

Tunnock's Stop Using Palm Oil

Stop using palm oil in your products, or commit to using "identity preserved" certified palm oil which does not come from deforestation plantations and prove it on your packaging.

Why is this important?

Tunnock's is a well known and loved Scottish brand, not only in its native Scotland, but around the world. Tunnock's should pave the way in the biscuit industry as being a leader in important environmental issues and show to be ecologically and environmentally responsible.

Using uncertified palm oil in biscuits is contributing to the destruction of rainforests and the near extinction of orangutans and Sumatran tigers. For the unsustainable palm oil industry to flourish indigenous people´s homes are threatened, deforestation leaves animals homeless, carbon dioxide emits poison contributing to greenhouse gases and animals such as orangutans are either killed, badly hurt, starved, or left as orphans. Enjoying a Tunnock's Tea Cake should not reflect such monstrosities.

How it will be delivered

A digital petition will be forwarded to the head office of Tunnock´s and a hard copy delivered in person.

Reasons for signing

  • Tunnock's have been my biscuits of choice since growing up in Scotland. Please, rise up to the ethical family traditions your packaging and our custom identify you with - by committing to sustainable palm oil - as you say is your wish and as is the case of my preferred oatcake brand. I am not going to buy another pack till you do follow through on your statement to achieve this, and actually use only the sustainably sourced kind. I hope to be able to return to your lovely products soon.
  • Because Tunnocks have no excuse, if other companies can do it so can they. I have stopped buying their products until they see sense, you should too
  • Because I love Tunnock's products, and admire the fact that they are still a family-run business; but I feel that failing to guarantee that the Palm Oil they use does not come from deforestation plantations is counter to their company ethos and I will have to stop buying their products as a result.
