Measure twice, cut once: EURef2 before Christmas please

Please can we have a 2nd referendum on leaving the EU before Xmas?
We will know the proposed terms of the "EU Divorce" by then.

Why is this important?

We all know that Brexit will not be a success unless the whole country is behind it.

Given the scope of the consultation period in the European Union Referendum Act 2015 runs until 31st December 2017, we could have a second referendum on leaving the EU before Christmas.

This would confirm that leaving the EU is still the will of enough of The People, before enacting measures that will be hard to reverse.

The result of the 2016 referendum was in favour of leaving, and most people in the UK respect that result even if they want to Remain.

Slightly more people who voted that day chose to leave. Not exactly the 67% certainty of the 1975 Ref when the UK chose to Remain in the EC, but there you go.

The Referendum Bill allocated 2 years to reflect on the benefits of EU membership before voting but for some reason David Cameron decided to rush it through in 6 months.

Although it was printed in the 2016 government information leaflet that “This is your decision; the Government will implement what you decide", it's written into the Bill that authorised the Referendum that the vote was advisory.

Given that the scope of the EU Ref consultation runs until the end of December, we should have a second referendum before Christmas just to make sure everyone is on board.

Let's use our British common sense and fair play to be absolutely sure that enough of us still actually want to leave the EU now more information is available to everyone.

"Measure twice, cut once" as the saying goes.

Brexit needs to be done on the level or it will be a disaster.

If you want the whole country backing Brexit then please demonstrate good faith in your belief that enough folk still think leaving the EU is best for us all by double-checking before the consultation period is over.

This will allow the United Kingdom to keep moving forward together in greater confidence.

The decision to Leave or Remain in the EU is not a game to be won or lost.

This is our shared future, and it needs to be shipshape and Bristol fashion or we will be scuppered.

Hi, thanks everyone for signing this petition and giving me hope that I'm not alone in wanting to check that enough people still want Brexit now that it's so much clearer that Brexit means Breaks-It.

The House of Commons website finally re-opened, so please sign this one and share it with everyone:

The Government have put the decision on Remaining in the EU into our hands.
The Will of The People is the only thing that can Stop Brexit.

Thank you for caring,

Jane

Hi, thanks again to all who have signed. I wanted to wait until we'd got to 1000 before updating but I really need to pack the car to take the family on a camping holiday so I have to send this now before I escape to no-internet land.
If you feel like sharing this petition to push things along in my absence I'd be very grateful.
Brexiteers claim things will settle in a decade or so, but my city is failing now, and my child is 5, so that's just not good enough for me, I'm afraid.
Not with such a small margin after a shambolic campaign.
I do understand why some folk voted for Change, but it looks increasingly certain that Brexit is bad change, and things will get a lot worse before there is any chance of it getting better for most of us.

There is more info as to why I think the Will of the People may be different now here: https://twitter.com/localnotail/status/888817186713870340

We should check it before Brexit. Better safe than sorry.

Cheers to all who have signed so far. Heartening to get over 500!

I live in Birmingham. We don't like to make a fuss but Brum is really struggling right now.The bin strikes are the first big cracks in our overstretched public service.

By 2020 Birmingham City Council staff will be 1/3 their levels at 2010, with £800m cuts made.
We've virtually no youth services. Homeless services , elderly care provision have been cut to the bone. Children's centres halved. Environmental Health cut too.

More years of cuts may break us anyway, but the uncertainty of Brexit may be catastrophic.
Not just in Brum, it's all over.
Austerity isn't working.

So unless anyone from Leave has a plan for saving my city in the next 2 yrs please can we make absolutely sure that enough of us still want Brexit?
My city could really do with some of the £billions it will cost.
