We have some bad news for Mark Carne and his band of Rural Thugs:

402 Saddleworth locals don't like how you operate Mr Carne. They do not like how you wreck a beautiful place like Den Lane.

And we all very much look forward to seeing you putting it right. And quick.

Ask another friend to stand up to the Corporate Vandals that are Network Rail.

This is where we live. And we like it as it was.

A reminder of 1Fact - when locals and councillors asked for a site visit - Network Rail tripled the size of the team bulding the fence, to in their words, 'put it up quick'.

Well thanks for that.

We now have a professional working group representing all the people who have signed the petition, including local authority members, residents of Den Lane, residents of Uppermill and Saddleworth and Friends of Saddleworth, whose name the group has taken. We will be insisting on a site visit from Network Rail decision makers this week just so you know .

Don't waste your time using the Network Rail helpline number as it is as pointless as this fence!

Thanks for signing the petition. With the mass media coverage in the last couple of weeks this trashing of a quiet backwater is now publicly well known and in full view of everybody. We did a test over the bank holiday in Saddleworth and every single person we asked 'have you heard about the pointless fence' all knew the story.

We need more people to sign the petition and we need more people also to write to Mark Carne and complain about what his company has done to our beautiful place.

So if you have not already done so will you please ask your local friends and family to sign the petition. And also if you have not already done so will you write to Mark Carne and ask him when he is sending someone to do a site visit with the local councillors and residents as requested already by many local people.

ps Everyone here knows that the fence is clearly in the wrong place - it is blindingly obvious. However this makes it very clear that the Pointless Fence has made zero contribution to safety. Someone somewhere has made a £30,000 mistake. Don't say we did not try to tell you!

You can access the line easily on the other side of the track from the bridleway. That is in fact where the fence needs to be built.

Mark Carne CEO Network Rail has wasted £30,000 of public money on...

A Pointless Fence.

This has been added to the content of the campaign:

NOTE IMPORTANT
Network Rail have cited cases of people and children trespassing onto the track to justify their actions. We have checked with the Police and no cases have been reported to the local Police in the last 11 years.

Also Network Rail cite vandalism [their actions are an act of vandalism in fact] as another reason for the fence. However zero cases of vandalism to the track area have ever been reported. The only 'vandalism' that has occurred was the dismantling by locals of the Pointless Fence last week. That however was not vandalism, but an act of direct protest by people who felt they were being ignored. Vandalism is the defacing of property. Dismantling a fence in protest is not vandalism.
