Why is this important?
In 1929 Mr Cohen opened the flagship Tesco store in Burnt Oak, North London. Although not the original store that opened here in Burnt oak nealy 80 years ago , Tesco Metro just around the corner from where the original flagship store stood is being closed down in February .
This store is one of the only 'supermarkets ' Within reasonable walking distance To many residents in Burnt oak particularly to those who are disabled with mobility problems or have young children and simply don't want to have to travel via bus or car to shop. It provides a crucial service to the residents of Burnt oak due to the variety and choice it offers . Living here with a young family I don't want to have to take my children on a bus to get baby milk or other necessitys if and when forgotten . The residents of Burnt oak need this Tesco to stay open as a life line from those residents who have young children and need baby food on a Sunday afternoon or to those living on a budget and shop for the reduced food in the evening or to those who have forgotten a last minute Birthday cake at 6 pm on a weekday ..the list could continue ..without Tesco in Burnt oak history is not only being lost but so is a important and necessary shop that provides a service to residents that currently can't be found else where locally .
