Successful Campaigns

Significant success! I am absolutely delighted to be writing today to tell you that we have had a considerable victory in our campaign to have the beds reinstated at Rothbury Community Hospital. There have had to be compromises, but what we have achieved is a pragmatic agreement. As you will remember, we argued for Coquetdale Cares: The Community Vision, back in 2017. Earlier this year, myself and Maurice Cole, met with Sir Jim Mackey and Claire Riley of the NHS Trust. They really listened to our concerns and began to get things moving. During the last few months, the CCG and the NHS Trust have been listening and working together, and with community representatives, to make what they are calling The Art of the Possible, a reality. The Art of the Possible is their response to our Vision. And we like it! It involves a plan to: Increase outpatient clinics, from falls clinics through to orthopaedics and others, some of which will use new technological links that enable virtual consultations. Provide additional clinical and daycare services utilising the hospital site as a hub for health and care delivery. Services include: Dementia care Learning disability forums Health and well-being clinics Chemotherapy care Enhanced emergency healthcare planning Mental Health and IAPT services Physiotherapy Dentistry Introduce a new metric to measure the number of miles travelled for services and, where possible, the NHS will look to reduce this. Introduce a flexible bed model – with inpatient beds available within the hospital for short-term rehab and end of life care. The number of beds will be dependent on clinical need. Importantly, they have really taken on board our idea to have rooms available for carers/partners/loved ones to stay when appropriate. This will be particularly during end-of-life care, and potentially if someone is admitted with dementia, their carers could stay too. They are definitely looking into making this available. I hope you will agree that this is all excellent news. The team are delighted. However - at the CCG Meeting yesterday, I made a sincere promise to the community - to keep a watchful eye on how this all develops. We have every intention of closely monitoring the unfolding of this. We cannot afford at this stage to let our guard down. The opening date is planned for 1st April 2020. Thanks to the people of Barry and wider Vale of Glamorgan we have managed to convince the Vale of Glamorgan Council to drop their plans for the commercial development of Porthkerry Country park. I was proud to help co-ordinate the campaign and will remain vigilant to ensure this vital natural park remains a home for our local wildlife. Thanks for your support.

06/02/21 We won! Under the pressure of this campaign, the developers Clean Slate have capitulated and are now connected to the main drains rather than polute the beautiful river Lambourn. Huge thanks to everyone who signed the petition as this would not have happened with out you.

The museum is saved! After more than 45,000 people signed petitions to protect the science museums in the north of England, Culture minister Ed Vaizey announced that the museums would not be given the proposed 10% budget cut and that there was "no question of them closing." The MP for York Central said: "All the campaigning and all the warnings sent to the government that it would be an act of cultural vandalism if one of these museums were to close appears to have been heeded." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-22948171

UPDATE 15/07/15: We Won! Last week the council accepted the application and the pub has been listed as an Asset of Community Value! The first of its kind in St Albans I would like to thank all those who signed and helped get some protection for this community local. This is only the first step on what could be a long fight with the developers who now own the Camp to get the pub re-opened. Thank you again for your support. 16/10/17 - We won! Thank you for signing the petition Stop bus route changes to service 3 and 4, started by myself. I am delighted to say that Susan Elan Jones MP has released a statement this morning confirming the return of the services to the estate as of January or a trial basis. The service will be 1 per hour, which is sensible. Thank you to John Phillips and Susan Elan Jones for their work on this. Thank you to everyone who supported this petition.

07/05/19 - BREAKING! WE WON! Guinness world records have made an official announcement and have updated their rules and awarded the record: @guinnessworldrecords "Our guidelines for running a marathon in a nurse’s uniform were out of date and reflected a stereotype we do not wish to perpetuate.
