13/12/14 - We had a great result & won the No Zip In Glenridding. After an open parish meeting, with Mike Turner of Tree Top Treks & Richard Leafe of the LDNPA being present to answer questions, there was a parish vote held. Mike Turner told us he would not go ahead if the parish did not want the zip wire. The vote was an overwhelming majority in favour of NOT having the Zip Wire instalation at the head of the valley. UPDATE 24/03/16 - Jo Churchill has withdrawn from the sponsored cycle ride for Headway charity following the publicity drawn by this petition! Victory!

UPDATE: 25/04/16 After a heated council debate on the 19th April, the council have agreed that all public toilets currently open will remain open! But unfortunately they are not going to provide temporary toilets while the Beeston interchange is redeveloped. Many thanks for all your support in this campaign.

15.04.15 - We gathered enough support

30/1/17 - We Won! As of 17:15pm today, Monday 30th January 2017, the online and hard copy petition signatures to save St. George's Vicarage, Stockport totalled 502 - We just received good news that the architect-developers, Purcell, and their client, the Chester Diocesan Board of Education, have withdrawn their demolition application today (as our petition suggested) before Stockport Council could determine the case. Objections to demolition had been received from Historic England, the Victorian Society and the Ancient Monuments Society, besides, in this petition: 275 concerned Stockport citizens (55% of all petitioners) of whom well over half live near to or regularly pass by the Vicarage site; 47 neighbouring Mancunians; At least nine eminent architectural historians expert in Victorian and Edwardian architecture; 20 prominent architects and conservation officers; Numerous members of the Victorian Society nationwide (from Lerwick in the Shetlands to St. Helier in Jersey; and The Stockport diaspora, including renowned authoress and media star, Baroness Joan Bakewell The Stockport Heritage and Building Preservation Trusts have just asked Stockport Council to intervene now and call a meeting with the architect-developers and the Diocese to discuss appropriate and sufficient enabling development to repair and restore the Vicarage. Or suffer the service of a Repairs Notice to stem the awful longstanding neglect of the listed building.

Boris Johnson made a complete U turn on this and today the government agreed to scrap the charge for NHS and care workers.

UPDATE! 5/9/16 Lewisham Council’s Planning Dept have just confirmed that Barratt London have finally withdrawn their planning application for a 19 storey tower. They will instead implement the original consent for an 8 storey block on the site between the stations. This is a fantastic victory for sustained grassroots community action, and could not have happened without the support of all 1639 of you. A big thank you to everyone who turned out for the crucial Planning Committee meeting in March: this massive demonstration of local opposition contributed hugely to this wonderful final outcome. And special thanks to all those who helped spread the word locally, e.g. by distributing leaflets. We could not have summoned up such powerful and effective opposition without you.

UPDATE: 01/07/14 We can confirm, for now it's all over and we've won. Sandwell have backed down, due to huge public pressure. Stockport Council withdrew its proposal to scrap its Local Assistance Scheme.

The Council's Environment, Transport and Sustainability Committee met on 29/4/14 and the Traffic Regulation Orders (Speed Limiting Orders) for our three streets were passed without further debate. This is excellent news and means that we now await implementation i.e. for the 20 mph signs to appear. Thank you all for participating.
