Save Falmouth's Marks and Spencer's from Closure

Save Falmouth's Marks and Spencer's from Closure

Reconsider the Closure of Falmouth Marks And Spencer store.

Why is this important?

Marks and Spencer's Falmouth has proved itself an integral part of the community, the cafe is always thriving with its iconic views of Falmouth bay with many locals including regular old age pensioners not to mention the tourists. The store is always full and busy, I am sure I am not alone when I say that I rely on the local Marks and Spencer for food. Cornwall itself is suffering with many cuts, this is the last thing it needs this will decrease the morale of the town with all the other closures that are happening. The next local store is based in the next town Truro, which does not seem far stretched out the way but when you consider the cost of public transport this will prove too expensive to do a regular shopping trip, or for the poor workers that will now need to make their way to Truro. It would be a huge shame if the space was to be replaced by another Poundland or charity shop. Please support this petition and sign it.

Reasons for signing

  • Falmouth M and S is an important resource for the local community and a bedrock for the Falmouth High street. If uneconomic the Council need to intervene, otherwise this will signal an accelerated decline of Falmouth High Street.
  • Tactically this seems a bad mistake for M&S. They’d be better off maintaining a presence in smaller towns and communities - local shopping is the future, it chimes with modern thinking.
  • The store makes enough profit in the lengthened holiday periods to cover any loss of monies during the short winter. Terrible clothing stock, who does the buying?

We are currently waiting on a response for a direct contact to represent M&S and receive the petition. During the waiting process we want to broadcast this issue on local community radio, we hope to gather public opinion and speak to key supporters such as Town Manager Richard Gates
