Give a home to asylum seekers in YorkUPDATE: 17/09/15 We have handed in our petition yesterday and with over 1300 signatures it felt great. What seemed like a lot of empty words, by our head of York Council Chris Steward, was challenged and questioned by other 38degrees members and myself. Last night the council announced to take on 60 refugees over the next five years. A great start but we still need to keep behind it to make sure we start acting now and not only within the next five years. We also asked Councillor Steward as our representative to the government to push for quick action which will take place now and won't be delayed longer. He told us the answer to most of the questions will be he doesn't know yet. So let's keep up the good work to make sure actions speak louder than words. Here is a picture of the handover yesterday: https://www.flickr.com/photos/7617572@N07/21455441602/in/photostream/ A press article regarding the handover: http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/13738936.1_200_sign_petition_calling_for_York_to_do_more_to_help_refugees/ And the link to my interview on BBC Radio York yesterday morning. Listen to it at about 1h13mins in: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p031cr16#play Thank you again so much for your support. The petition would have been nothing without you! PROTECT NHS CHILDREN'S SERVICES IN BRISTOL & SOUTH GLOS FROM PRIVATISATIONUPDATE - 12/01/15 - children’s community health services and the inpatient adolescent mental health unit in Bristol have, for now, been saved from privatisation! This is a massive victory for both NHS services in Bristol and the rest of the country. It shows what can be done when service users, staff, members of the public and councillors and MP's work together to hold the public bodies who make decisions about our NHS to account and let them know what we want for our health services.6,982 SignaturesCreated by Nathan Williams

Save Kingston's Rose TheatreGOOD NEWS! 09/04/20 As a result of our campaign and petition, which achieved a fantastic 16,000 signatures, the Rose Theatre has been saved from closure. Kingston Council has announced that, instead of cutting the entirety of the Rose's £265,000 budget allocation, it will simply reduce funding by £20,000 this year, £15,000 next year and a further £30,000 in 2022-2023. After that, it is proposed that the yearly budget allocated for the Rose will remain at £200,000 a year. This is a major victory. The theatre, which was threatened with closure, now has a secure future. Politicians of many colours will undoubtedly try to claim credit for this victory, though no political party officially supported us in our fight; protecting the Rose was simply not on the agenda before our campaign and, without us, it would not have been saved. This is a real victory for community activism and demonstrates just how powerful ordinary people can be when we come together in the service of a common goal. Thank you so much for all of your help and everything you have done. This is a great outcome but not a perfect one. The Rose is still facing a significant reduction in funds over the next few years and there is still much to do (any thoughts on how to continue the fight are very welcome). Unfortunately, reforms by the current Council administration also make a future petition like this all but impossible. But, right now, we can enjoy this victory and take heart from a bit of good news. Kind regards, Phil Bevin Convener of Coalition Against Demolition (the organisation behind the Save the Rose campaign)16,254 SignaturesCreated by Phil Bevin

Two fire engines for ChesterSUCCESS AT LAST ! This Petition is now closed. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE SUPPORTED OUR CAMPAIGN TO SEE THE RETURN OF CHESTER’S SECOND FIRE ENGINE. TOGETHER WE HAVE SUCCEEDED ! On July 1st 2020, Cheshire Fire Authority voted unanimously to accept the four year plan (IRMP) proposed by the Chief Fire Officer. In essence it was decided to return the Fire Engine from Powey Lane Fire Station back to St Anne Street in Chester City Centre when the new Fire Station (currently in build) is completed. This move will redress the current imbalance of resources whereby there are THREE WHOLE-TIME FIRE ENGINES located in close proximity North of the A5117 which are ideally placed to service Ellesmere Port, whereas there is currently only ONE WHOLE-TIME FIRE ENGINE to service the needs of Chester. Following the move each area will have TWO WHOLE-TIME FIRE ENGINES. This campaign has run continually for three and a half years ( following the Fire Engine being moved to Powey Lane Fire Station in January 2017) since when our campaign team "Chester Retired Firefighters" have amassed and presented irrefutable evidence supporting our claim. Thankfully the Senior Management Team of CFRS and the FA now recognize the issues we have raised and have voted for the pump to return. The success of this campaign is due, not only to the determination of "Chester Retired Firefighters" but is also due to the magnificent support we have been given by Chester MP Chris Matheson, Local Councillors from all parties, local business both large and small, our families and YOU THE PUBLIC. You should all feel justifiably proud in what has been achieved in making Chester and it’s surrounding areas safer. In total this online Petition and the paper version collected 7219 signatures which were presented to the Fire Authority. SINCERE THANKS TO YOU ALL. TAKE CARE AND STAY SAFE Tony Jones (Michael Anthony Jones) Secretary.Chester Retired Firefighters3,097 SignaturesCreated by Michael Anthony Jones

Save Bath's Public ToiletsThousands of 38 Degrees members signed this petition, which triggered a debate. Then I occupied a toilet for 3 days, securing nationwide coverage. After all that people power, Bath Council agreed to our demands. The toilets remained open, so thank you for all your work.2,483 SignaturesCreated by Lin Patterson
