Tougher Penalties For Rural Crime

Enforce tougher penalties for those committing rural crimes

Why is this important?

From the brutal attack on the beautiful horse Domino in Milton Keynes with a claw hammer, to mutilated cats left on car roofs, and most recently the devastating arson attack at Elmwood Equestrian Centre which killed several horses and left many requiring urgent veterinary attention - enough is enough and it has to stop.
Penalties for the abuse, mutilation and murder of animals and damage to rural properties is currently beyond pathetic. Knowing they'll get away with a slap on the wrists, if they are caught at all, is absolutely no deterrent for these "people" who seem to get a kick out of the suffering and abuse of innocent animals, and the damage to peoples property and equipment.
Imagine seeing that huge barn on fire, watching it collapse knowing your precious, beloved horses were in there and there was nothing you could do. And knowing that there was absolutely nothing you could do about it. Or finding your beautiful pet mutilated and left on the street.
Then imagine someone did that on purpose. And that person is still walking the street, no regard for what they've done, and thinking of the next act they can do. At most they'll get a slap on the wrist, a small penalty if we're lucky.
Even if you're not an "animal person" - this can lead on to other attacks on children and other people.
These disgusting people MUST be brought to reason - a harsher penalty for such crimes may help those involved to think twice. They have no regard for the consequences on innocent animals, or the people involved, but they may take a step back if they face a much harder punishment for what they have done.
I really urge you to sign my petition and lets see if we can help protect our animals and those in rural areas from horrific crimes which often get overlooked.
Thank you

Hi Everyone

Firstly thank you for the fantastic response so far - I'm so pleased to see so much report!

I have been asked some questions by a reporter regarding the campaign to spread awareness on this subject. If anyone has anything they would specifically like to include - real life examples etc or anything else you think is important - I'd love to hear about them so I can make my response as informative and accurate as possible.

You can email me on [email protected] if there's anything you think is important to include.

Thank you all so much for your support in helping us make rural areas a safer place to live

Kate
