Stop changes to Support for Mortgage Interest (SMI)

We need to come together to stop the unfair and unjust changes being made to support for mortgage Interest payments from April 2018. Why are they prepared to continue to pay housing benefits to tenants which enable landlords to pay their mortgages but yet discriminate against homeowners who have worked hard to purchase their home and paid into the tax systems of this country prior to becoming too unwell to work. Now they are causing extreme stress to already vulnerable individuals and in addition forcing them to pay two lots of interest. This is an outrage. And to add insult to injury a large number of these individuals affected by this change are pensioners.

Why is this important?

People need to join together to show this government that this change is unfair and unjust and discrimates against homeowners.

Reasons for signing

  • Those who have had a mortgage for 25 years should have assistance when needed. Instead it is for those whose chose to go the easy way and claim social housing with little or no rent to pay!!!
  • Tried hard to provide for ourselves now it would appear we are not equal if I sell up - tough made yourself homeless even with next to no equity not entitled to council housing - on benefits not wanted in most private accommodation- even if could get private let ,housing benefits would be much higher. Lose lose all round . Would have been better off never having tried
  • People who have worked hard to get a mortgage in the first place deserve as much help as those who haven't bothered or been able to.
