RBS Branches Closing in Clydesdale, Scottish Borders and Midlothian South

RBS Branches Closing in Clydesdale, Scottish Borders and Midlothian South

RBS must halt the proposals to close the RBS branches Clydesdale, Scottish Borders and Midlothian South at Biggar, Carnwath, Douglas, Duns, Eyemouth, Hawick, Jedburgh, Lesmahagow, Melrose, North Berwick, Penicuik, Selkirk and Strathaven.
The public bailed the Bank out and the public deserves better. RBS must engage fully with trades unions, staff, customers, communities and elected representatives, including the Scottish and UK Government, to ensure that local customers and workers are fully protected.

Why is this important?

Not only will this have a devastating impact on the bank workers who are set to lose their jobs, these closures will also have a negative effect on the local communities of Biggar, Carnwath, Douglas, Dunns, Eyemouth, Hawick, Jedburgh, Lesmahagow, Melrose, North Berwick, Penicuik, Selkirk and Strathaven.

Those who are older, in poor health, who cannot afford to travel further afield to do their banking, or who run small businesses will be hit hardest by these branch closures.

Reasons for signing

  • Banks are essential services in rural communities where access to public transport is an issue for members of our community that don’t have their own transport to undertake daily business. 2nd issue is our internet connection which is intermittent makes online business difficult to undertake, 3rd factor is to reduce isolation affecting rural communities where this can be their only dialogue with the outside world. All reducing health outcomes and life chances for our rural communities.
  • I bank with RBS because they have local branches throughout Scotland. I will be lost after all these closures. There are times when you need to go into the bank and it's usually when you don't have the time to get to the larger towns and cities. I am sure I am not alone in this.
  • I use my branch regularly!
