Bristol City Council debate about the expansion of Bristol Airport

North Somerset Council rejected airport expansion so, although there was no debate at Bristol City Council, the campaign relating to airport expansion was successful.

Bristol City Council debate about the expansion of Bristol Airport

There was insufficient time for a debate about Bristol Airport expansion at the meeting of Bristol City Council on 18 December 2019. We therefore request that a full and informed debate about the impact of Bristol airport expansion is undertaken at full council as soon as possible.

Why is this important?

Given that Bristol has declared a climate emergency, it is important to consider the impact of the expansion of Bristol airport.
The Mayor of Bristol, Marvin Rees, has submitted comments to North Somerset council in favour of the expansion of Bristol airport but it is not clear if this represents the views of full council or the citizens of Bristol.
To understand the impact of the proposal to expand the airport, we request a full and informed debate.

Reasons for signing

  • I feel it is important to have a full and informed debate (all views) in view of the climate change crisis we are all facing!
  • we can not be the generation who say, yes we knew but still kept on expanding. Reduce rather than expand air travel.
  • This is really important to have a proper debate
