Declare Neath Port Talbot a Frack Free County

Declare Neath Port Talbot a Frack Free County

We, the undersigned, call upon Neath Port Talbot Council to declare Neath Port Talbot a ‘Frack Free’ county and to look to investment in renewable technologies rather than in toxic fossil-fuels.

Why is this important?

Neath Port Talbot has for centuries been an industrial area but now in the 21st century, the surrounding countryside is starting to return to its former glory with much of the area now supporting a thriving tourist industry. The people of Neath Port Talbot would like to keep it this way and do not want any form of shale gas or oil extraction by any method whatsoever, namely by Hydraulic Fracturing (Fracking), Coal Bed Methane or Underground Coal Gasification.

Reasons for signing

  • No one has any idea what this will do to already unstable old coal workings. There is a huge safety issues here that is being ignored.
  • I have recently got to know something of this river and valley land. It's had more than enough harm done to it in the past; its local people need to be supported in caring for it once again - the last thing they need is destructive government, local and national
  • I was born and grew up among some of the most important medieval and industrial heritage of Wales in Neath Abbey. I am old enough to remember that my river was the only one for miles with fish and water safe to bathe in. Please keep our valleys green and bright in the sun.
