Enfield L.A.'s policy to charge Severely Disabled adults for services they aren't even receiving!

UPDATE: 15/11/17 We Won!

We are delighted to inform you all that the proposal by Enfield L.A. to significantly, and unfairly, increase charges to many severely disabled adults has been abandoned!

The following statement from the Enfield Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care was published in the Enfield Council Cabinet Agenda for their 15/11/2017 meeting:

"I want to thank all of the local people and representatives who have engaged with and responded to the recent consultation on potential changes to the Council’s Charging Policy for Adult Social Care Services.

Having listened to and considered the strength and breadth of views expressed I will not be bringing forward any recommendations for decision at this meeting."

Thank you so much for signing and sharing our petition - we garnered 773 signatures and this was a significant reason why the decision was halted at the last minute. Your help has been instrumental in protecting the most vulnerable people in society but we are under no illusions that there may well be difficult challenges ahead.

We are humbled at the power of can be achieved when people with empathy can stick together.

Thank you for being involved.

Enfield L.A.'s policy to charge Severely Disabled adults for services they aren't even receiving!

Please can you help support disabled people by strongly disagreeing with Enfield L.A’s proposed Adult Social Care Charging Policy because it is an attempt to charge vulnerable adults for night care that the L.A. do not even provide! This proposal is immoral and potentially unlawful and should not be allowed to go ahead.

Why is this important?

The night care component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Attendance Allowance (AA) is awarded on a national level by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to those deemed to require support during the night. Enfield L.A. have no rightful claim on the night care component of DLA or AA since they do not provide these people with night care.

The new charging policy from Enfield L.A. indicates that it will add £27.45 per week (the night care benefit) to a disabled person’s charge for day services without any justification.

In reality, this night care is mostly provided by families, at no cost to Enfield L.A. We all know that these caring families actually save the Local Authority considerable sums of money and as outlined above, there is no logical basis for this money being charged.

Reasons for signing

  • concerned for people with disabilities and crossroads cares for them.
  • If this is true then this is yet another Enfield Council attempt to fleece the residents of this borough. Who will stop them??
  • Enfield L.A. have no rightful claim on the night care component of DLA or AA since they do not provide these people with night care.
