Keep Mackie Hill School in the Kettlethorpe Collaborative Partnership

Keep Mackie Hill School in the Kettlethorpe Collaborative Partnership

Please don't force Mackie Hill School to become an academy. Please formalise the amalgamation with Kettlethorpe High School instead.

We believe this is in the best interests of the children at Mackie Hill.

Why is this important?

We have seen vast improvements in Mackie Hill School since being amalgamated with Kettlethorpe High School. Teachers are happier and more motivated. Parents are better informed. Most importantly, the children are thriving and learning essential skills for their transition to secondary school.

The news that the school's proposal to formalise this amalgamation has been rejected has devastated both parents and teachers. Parents and the wider community are overwhelmingly concerned about the well publicised failures of local academy trusts in Wakefield. This huge upheaval could disrupt the children's education. Mackie Hill is a small school and support from, teachers and the local community is essential for its ongoing success. Please listen, and let Mackie Hill stay with Kettlethorpe High School.

Reasons for signing

  • Quite unbelievable that a post 16 provider with no primary experience can feel they can come in after all the hard graft has been done and take the credit as well as take a considerable cut of the schools budget and also a DFE bung for doing so. Lacks moral purpose.
  • i feel we need to stop this corporate take over of our children's education. my son is in ossett academy and what they teach makes my blood boil.
  • I don’t think Academies work and there is no going back once a school becomes an Academy. Academies fail.

There’s been so much activity over the past 24 hours. We can’t thank all of our wonderful supporters and the brilliant folk at 38 degrees enough.

A snapshot of the petition was taken this morning and along with letters of objection from parents and the wider community was sent to the Regional Headteachers board for their consideration.

But we still need to keep the signatures coming, the battle continues! #savemackiehill
