Pay hotel staff furlough

This campaign has ended.

Pay hotel staff furlough

Change the furlough pay to include hotels & other businesses that are not included in the new furlough scheme.
Hotels and other work places are still open as the Government requested. Furlough pay is only granted if your workplace is told to shut. Companies are having to make staff redundant, due to a sharp decrease in customers. Companies are being left with no choice. All staff are at risk, although Staff that are on zero hour contracts are most at risk of being left with nothing.

Why is this important?

To save jobs and stop the whole hotel b&b & leisure industry crumbling.
To keep trades and traditions going, these jobs need people with experience to pass on knowledge to the next generation.
To ensure that people who work in these jobs can survive the winter.

Due to the upcoming lockdown and the extended furlough pay this petition will be closing. Thanks to everyone who signed. I wish you all the very best through these tough times.

My own proposal which has gone to Ministers is as follows:

Business which are closed are Hotels and restaurants should therefore be permitted to either close or stay open, but should they choose to close, they must do so completely. In that event, they should be able to access the Job Support Scheme (Expansion) Scheme as other closed businesses. This protects hotels which are otherwise viable.

This would be on top of whatever Blackpool Council itself hands out.

I recognise this is reaching crisis point and am very concerned about the future.

My recent reply from MP Paul Maynard.
Business which are closed are currently entitled to a limited amount of compensation, but can also access the Job Support Scheme (Expansion) Scheme which closely resembles the furlough scheme but meets only 66% of Hotels, in particular, though are not legally obliged to close but are functionally closed as bookings are cancelled and new bookings dry up. This also applies to the wider hospitality sector, including restaurants. Whilst hotels and restaurants can claim for furlough up until 1 November, after that, they are dependent upon the less generous Job Support Scheme where they have to pay hours worked and then half of the unworked hours – i.e. two thirds of wages. This is not viable, as many are telling me, though the Chancellor’s announcement today may remedy that.

This petition has been delivered to members of parliament. I thankyou all for your support and I hope that we have made a difference. The petition is still open and I advise people to still sign. I will keep you all updated soon as I hear anything. I wish you all good luck.

Rishi Sunak is to unveil a new rescue deal for jobs and firms. We will have to wait and see what this covers & if it will be enough to keep companies going. Unfortunately many businesses have already been forced to close due to lack of customers. Staff are already being laid off with no support. Private independently owned businesses are being left with nothing. Please keep sharing and signing the petition. We need to show the Government we are here.
