Save the barge

UPDATE 07/09/17

Great news, The Barge has been saved! Grimsby’s iconic Barge pub restaurant has been saved thanks to a wave of public support with nearly 8,500 names on a petition.

Owner Derrick Howard had been told last month he would have to move The Barge to make way for a planned £20million cinema and leisure development. But he announced today following a meeting with developers and council chiefs The Barge can stay.

Save the barge

Incorporate the barge pub into the future development of the riverhead area in Grimsby town centre.

Why is this important?

The barge is a unique and important part of Grimsby towns heritage and culture and is probably one of the most loved pubs in town, let's band together and fight for its survival.

Reasons for signing

  • The Barge is Somewhere people can be just themselves - whether that's a grebbo grabbing a snakebite, a goth sipping vermouth, a student guzzling a sugar filled cocktail, or an old dear getting her fish, chips, peas, and a slice of lemon on a Friday lunch. By revoking the mooring license of The Barge NELC are slicing away at what little community we have left. Government cuts have meant we have lost so many community assets, NELC should not choose to take this from us too. #savethebarge
  • The barge is sacred ground & not to be messed with!
  • I signed because the Barge remains one of the friendliest pubs in town. I can't count the number of ace nights I spent in there from my late teens onwards. Save it!
