• The Gym Group: Bring back the Music License
Forgetting your headphones when you get to the gym can be the worst pain you’ve ever felt, not being able to listen to your favourite UK Dance playlist, A couple of months ago it would’ve been possible to do a workout listening to The Gym Groups sound system. Artists like David Guetta, Example, J Hus, Avicii would be played, But now the music license at The Gym Group has gone. And the music is dreadful

  • Do NOT stop locking Slade Gardens at night
Some of our bedrooms homes sit INSIDE the "trail path" in Slade Gardens. The park bench is already used during the day as a marijuana smoking bench, we do not want the party to continue into the night outside our bedrooms. Our car park and bike shed are next door to the park. By not locking the gates at night it will be much easier for thieves to jump over the fence and steal bikes/break into parked cars and break into our homes unseen. Slade Gardens at night is already a source of anti-social behaviour, which would significantly deteriorate if the park was to be left unlocked 24 hours a day. The biggest issue Slade Gardens faces at night (and even during the day) is drug use and dealing, with people jumping the fences to gain access illicitly. This is compounded by the fact that the park is not lit at all. If the park is left unlocked this would certainly increase. Drug-related crime is a significant issue for the area and this proposal from Lambeth shows a blind eye being turned to the issues surrounding it. There would be an increased fire risk from potential bonfires/BBQs held at night. There would be a risk of the park turning into a car/caravan park if the gates off Robsart and Ingleborough Streets are not locked. This happened in the last few months less that 100m away in an unlocked block. Slade Gardens is an invaluable community asset which would be ruined if left open at night. Yes there will be a saving on staff costs for closing the park, but this would likely be entirely wiped out by increased costs of rubbish collection, cleaning, and police attendance. WE DO NOT WANT OUR LOCAL PARK TO BE LEFT IN AN UNSAFE AND FILTHY STATE SO THAT WE CANNOT ENJOY IT DURING THE DAYTIME. WE DO NOT WANT OUR PERSONAL SAFETY TO BE COMPROMISED BY ALLOWING PEOPLE INTO THE PARK 24 HOURS A DAY.

  • The Future of the Isabel Blackman Centre in Hastings Old Town
We need your support to save this vital community asset. Age UK East Sussex have been working with the Hastings & St Leonards Seniors Forum, Hastings Voluntary Action, Sussex Community Development Association and Hastings Old Town Residents Association to examine a future for the Isabel Blackman Centre which was closed in March 2019. In partnership, we have launched a petition asking East Sussex County Council to engage with the voluntary sector about the building’s future or, if the building is sold, “ring-fence” the capital receipt to benefit older people in Hastings. You can view and sign the petition here:- https://democracy.eastsussex.gov.uk/mgEPetitionDisplay.aspx?id=500000027&TPID=503118186&$LO$=1 The Isabel Blackman Centre has been a vital community asset for older people in Hastings for many years. It needs to be sold off to the voluntary sector and reopened as a community hub and main resource for local older people.

  • Abolish minute by minute pay for carers
I have seen a lot of excellent colleagues, with years of experience leave the industry because of the impossible wages being paid. Travel time isn't factored in I see staff shortages putting pressure upon services, staff and clients. There is less continuity of care. There is low morale amongst carers not knowing what will happen in the future. Companies are finding it harder and harder to recruit and retain staff. Complaints are rising, people are becoming increasingly unhappy and stressed. Start putting people first, carers and vulnerable clients. Stop the cuts before it's too late for home care.

  • Save Enterprise Pre3+ Early Learning and Chilcare Centre
The Enterprise Pre3+ Early Learning and Childcare Centre ensures that children of all ages and stages of development, receive the best educational experience, tailored to each individual child's needs. In addition this service has proved vital for parents returning to education or work, who otherwise would not have been able to do so. Previously having held close links with James Watt College/West College Scotland, many local students have heavily relied on this childcare facility. Closing this service due to funding cuts would not only be a terrible shame for the children of those working and studying in Inverclyde, but is also proposed to be counter productive. Inverclyde needs the Enterprise Pre3+ Early Learning and Childcare Centre to stay open for the sake of the children and for positive development of the local economy.

  • Scrap plans to cut housing support services for homeless people in West Sussex
West Sussex County Council is proposing huge cuts to support for homeless people. Up to £4 million could be slashed from services and hostels, as well as support teams and drop in centres. These cuts will affect some of the most vulnerable people in our county: rough sleepers, victims of domestic abuse, care leavers, and frail older people who rely on support from the council. These vital services are often life saving, and provide a pathway to recovery and independence for the most vulnerable people in the county. Charities estimate that the cost of the proposed cuts will be high: human lives could be lost, and the financial costs will simply be transferred to the NHS, child protection, homelessness provision and the criminal justice system. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/feb/20/lives-lost-housing-cuts-rough-sleepers-west-sussex-homeless?bucket=email-blast-22_2_2019_westsussex_seeder&utm_campaign=blast2019-02-22&utm_medium=email&utm_source=

  • West Sussex cuts funding for the most vulnerable
This is important because it’s an issue that’s not isolated to West Sussex - it’s an epidemic of cost cutting measures aimed at the most isolated individuals.By 2020, the £6.3m the council currently spends on housing support services for rough sleepers, victims of domestic abuse, care leavers, and frail older people in the county, will shrink to just £2.3m.

  • Continue to Remember our War Heros
The trees were planted after the end of the first and second world wars to commemorate the dead soldiers. Unfortunately some of the trees are diseased and the local council are going to remove them. They say they will not replace the trees. It is the centenary of the end of the first world war and therefore shows a lack of respect for the men lost from our town!
