The numbers of people sent to prison in England and Wales are out of control. Prison does not work to address harm, it increases harm. Currently England and Wales have the highest rate of imprisonment in Western Europe, and building more prisons will make this worse. More people will be sent to prison for minor crimes. In Glen Parva, pollution from construction activity will enter the Grand Union Canal and local bat, hedgehog and toad life will be affected. The increase of prisoners will put a strain on local services and infrastructure as it did in Wrexham with HMP Berwyn. Local residents will also be affected by increased noise, light pollution and congestion. The £170 million planned to build the mega-prison should instead be invested in public services, which will benefit the community.

The production of unsustainable palm oil is causing severe environmental damage around the world.

Gardens are so small these days with property developers squeezing as many houses as possible into an area. Many of our modern developments are some distance from shops, parks, etc, making it necessary to get in a car every time you leave the house. If it is a very large development a community building should be part of the plan complete with 'green' and what about a village pond!

The disposable ones are virtually indestructible and are finding their way into the sea around the coast of the UK.

1.To protect wildlife (bats, squirrels, badgers, foxes, birds) 2.Removing oxygen producing plants which contribute to sustaining the local ecosystem will have a negative impact environmentally 3. Removing natural defences (from the sound of the railway to natural flood defences) will have an impact on the homes in and around the planned tree felling area

Often, wen customers opt for the most sustainable and least packaged item in supermarkets they are still faced with having dispose of the plastic sticker on the product. (e.g. kiwis and apples are big culprits). Although small, the plastic pieces accumulate from our weekly, monthly, yearly shops and thus in the landfill sites we send them too. These stickers are useful but not necessary. The product can be identified and priced from a label attached to the shelf its situated on before purchase. However, if it is still deemed as important, companies can investigate alternatives such as biodegradable or edible ones (made from sugar paper, for example).

The plastic in the ocean is set to double in the next 5 years! It's now already too much. It's now or never. The tipping point for plastic has been long over run now. This is important because the amount of anti-social behaviour is increasing rapidly. This can also help reduce crime within the area if the younger generation are surrounded with a happy, more fun, environments where they can meet new people and try new things.

The current detailed recycling information on packaging (while necessary) is often complex, and doesn't allow the consumer to make rapid and informed judgements on packaging when shopping. The system will succeed because it is voluntary. The population will drive change through market forces. Companies who use environmentally friendly packaging will be keen to display the logo (and thus gain sales), companies using non-recyclable packaging could lose sales and will thus be encouraged to adopt recyclable packaging with a greater urgency. This scheme will work because it is simple. It's a rapid way to push through change without waiting for Government to legislate. There really can't be any excuses when it comes to the environment. 'ReFit' is a short form for 'Fit for Recycling'.

Currently most black plastic is not recycled. Many local councils do not have the equipment to recycle it and therefore it goes to Landfill. Black plastic trays (used for meat, vegetables and ready-made meals) could easily be replaced with clear plastic trays which are recycled. Supermarkets continue to supply products to market over-packaged and worse in non-recyclable packaging with little regard for the environment. I am asking supermarkets to make a change and reduce the load to landfill. Please stop using black plastic trays.

IF THE GARDEN NURSERY CENTER WAS REINSTATED IT WOULD ENABLE PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES TO EXPAND THEIR HORIZONS, DEVELOP SOCIAL SKILLS, MEET NEW PEOPLE FROM MANY DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS, FEEL MORE INCLUSIVE IN THE BROADER COMMUNITY, BE THE FIRST STEP TO GAINING MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT, GAIN A SENSE OF SELF ACHIEVEMENT FOR BOTH THEMSELVES AND THEIR FAMILIES. IT WILL ALSO ACT AS A HUB FOR RETIRED GARDENERS TO PASS ON THEIR EXPERTISE TO A DIFFERENT GENERATION OF PEOPLE WILLING TO LEARN. CREATING A PLACE WITH A STRONG SENSE OF COMMUNITY.
