• Save Meadowbank - People before Private Profiteers
Currently there are 2 planning applications, one is full planning application for the redevelopment of the new downsized stadium whilst the other application is pre planning proposal that involves the selling off off and using the surrounding surplus land to build student accommodation, hotels and 360+ flats. Only a minority being 'affordable housing'. The development will involve the loss of 150+ mature healthy trees including very rare healthy Wheatley Elms, which the Council has spent millions over the years caring for, and green spaces. All of this will have a detrimental effect on local residents and the wider Edinburgh community for numerous reasons e.g. health, community cohesion, environment. The consultation in 2016 was inadequate and the recent planning application notification list was distributed to approximately 450 homes. While this may be legal, it is inadequate and undermines the Scottish Government policies which push for more community engagement. Local residents and the wider Edinburgh communities deserve to be made aware that they are losing an international sports centre due to sustained and constant lack of Council’s investment and for the sake of private developers’ profit. The proposed redevelopment will not meet the needs of all the current service users.

  • Amendment to proposed traffic calming in Over Wallop
    - The volume and speed of traffic using Over Wallop is inappropriate. - The traffic situation in the village is dangerous with numerous incidents involving pets in recent years and a number of near-misses with school children. - We absolutely support a traffic calming scheme in the village - but do not support certain elements of the scheme as proposed by Hampshire County Council. - The proposed permanent closure of Salisbury Lane will cause a very material increase in traffic on Station Road (as was evidenced during the recent temporary closure of the lane). - It seems inequitable that Station Road should bear the entire traffic burden in the village. - We believe a fairer solution would be that Salisbury Lane remains open and that chicanes are placed on both Station Road and Salisbury Lane to deter use as a cut-through and slow traffic. - This solution should distribute traffic between Salisbury Lane and Station Road, thereby minimising the impact of road traffic on residents of both roads. - In addition, we strongly believe that changes are required to the road layout (introduction of a mini roundabout) at the junction of the Old Stockbridge Road and the A343 at Kentsboro in order to support the flow of traffic away from Over Wallop. This junction is already an accident blackspot which will only get worse if the proposed traffic calming measures are introduced. If your husband, wife, parnter, children (over 18) or others support this petition please ask them to sign individually. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PETITION IS CONFIDENTIAL AND THAT "SIGNATORIES" NAMES WILL NOT BE DISCLOSED TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF HAMPSHIRE COUNTRY COUNCIL.

  • Save A&E units in South West Wales
Hywel Dda University Health Board's plans include 3 options - ALL of which will close the A&E units at Glangwili and Withybush hospitals. The Glangwili unit was built relatively recently and Withybush has also been upgraded. The plan calls for building a new major hospital in the countryside "somewhere between Narberth and St Clears". All 3 options list as a disadvantage that patients will have to travel further to access planned and emergency care in an area already poorly served by public transport and with a limited number of ambulance stations and ambulances to cover a large rural area; while it's true we have the excellent Wales Air Ambulance, that can't be everywhere. Making patients travel further to reach A&E could cost lives. A secondary issue arises from the likely difficulty patients and visitors will face in travelling to the proposed new hospital, especially if they don't have access to a car. You can see the plans in detail here: https://www.ors.org.uk/web/upload/surveys/751664/files/BC-MainConsultationDocumentVersion1%281%29.pdf

  • Zebra Crossing
So many cars, and while there are crossings, there are very far away and inconvenient to cross. This prioritising cars in the city and displacing the right of people. Critical to allow pedestrians to have right on the road and hopefully reduce car use.

  • Nationally Recognise Pubs/Clubs & Venues as Community Assets
Please consider any local café, restaurant, pub, clubs/sports associations and village hall a community asset, i.e. somewhere people can gather and socialise and ensure that these establishments are protected under Planning Law. Under current planning law a change of use is permitted through the planning application process, which in turn initiates a "consultation" process i.e. the community has the opportunity to object to an application. However Planning Officers have a tendency to ignore objections and rubber stamp development, a recent example local to me had 700 petitioned objections 13 written and the support of a Local Councillor, planning was still granted. The Government must support the community and prevent Council's and developers ignoring the wish of the local populous. Media reports that society is changing, and that the mental health of the nation is suffering, could this be because people have become insular by not going out. Pub’s, as an example, used to be a place where the local community met, socialised and resolved local issues between themselves, everybody knew their neighbour, their neighbour’s kids, etc. This sense of community is rapidly being lost. People are sitting at home becoming keyboard warriors and panicking over fake-news, they do not have an outlet to talk to others, attributing to the overall mental health of a Nation. Community assets should be protected by Law and encouraged with lesser rents, exemption from business rates, they after all are providing a service to the public, the local community and at times law enforcement. If a building cannot be maintained in it's current use, an alternative use that benefits the community would be preferable, i.e. conversion to a youth club rather that developed for profit.

  • Council Homes for the Many
Local estate residents have so far not won any concessions to their vision for the regenerated estate even though these proposals have been in the public arena for well over two years. There have been repeated calls over this time for the Council to commit to delivering on these demands. But so far it has fallen on deaf ears. Enough is enough. It is more than time that residents were listened to. Started by: Phil Bevin (Kingston & Surbiton Labour Party)

  • Introduce a cap on the number of properties individuals/companies can own
We are constantly reminded of the pressures in the need for housing which then adds pressure to greenfield and brown fields areas to be used for building. Areas of outstanding natural beauty and homes for wildlife and sanctuary for locals are then put under pressure and force until they too have to make way for houses. This cap would force the government to take control over individuals and companies who have a monopoly over properties and remove this shortsighted and environmentally devastating plan of building more and more houses (which will quickly be bought up by many individuals and companies with multiple properties) which the government has in plans. This plan is only to line pockets of the rich to become richer. This will provide homes, which exist already to people who need them, demand would reduce therefore homes would become more accessible to families and everyday people and force us to take responsibility as a nation for the environment around us.

  • Safer roads in Penpedairheol
So many children along with families and elderly are put at risk each day crossing the main road through Penpedairheol. There has been a number of accidents and children knocked down by the sheer number of cars which use the roads and the lack of visability due to parked cars. It is essential that our local council pay attention to ensuring we live in a safe environment in order to prevent a fatality.

  • STOP the Severnside incinerator
This petition urges MCC to overturn the decision to allow DC/2017/00563 to go ahead and furthermore to reject the application DC/2017/00700 by DPS waste incineration. This directly affects your health and that of your family and friends. YOUR VOICE MATTERS and IT DOES COUNT. If approved Severnside air pollution WILL increase forever, with significant predictable life threatening and life changing health consequences for many, including the most vulnerable youngest members of society. Research has proven unborn babies; infants and children are most at risk from incinerator emissions. Incinerators are associated with direct causal links to all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality and lung cancer, including both adult and childhood cancer. Other associated issues include: birth defects, increased respiratory issues, emotional and behavioural problems in children including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, learning difficulties, and delinquency. And, furthermore potential cell level genetic changes pose a risk to future generations. Whilst in adults: violence, dementia, depression and Parkinson’s disease are all attributable. These findings come from a wide variety of peer reviewed research and reports conducted by The World Health Organisation, British Heart Foundation, British Lung Foundation, DEFRA, Asthma UK, and many others. The latest planning application (DC2017/00700) is needed to build Chimneystacks for the operation of both the incinerator unit and storage units for the waste both pre and post incineration. The planned chimneystacks are out of keeping with surrounding local village architecture and may potentially contravene NPPF guidelines. Equally the granting of this application may contravene The Future Generations Act 2015 and this must be considered in any decision made. No one can guarantee that waste incineration is totally safe for public health. The toxic emissions and particulate pollution have to go somewhere. It is enshrined in EC and UK legislation that reducing emissions produces true health benefits, reduces the burden on healthcare, and protects against the impacts of acid air, and its effect on water including local and wide ranging ecosystems and the food chain. . Research has demonstrated that the hazards of incineration are greater than previously realised especially relating to fine and ultra fine particulates. Operating waste incinerators in urban areas results in dangerous health and environmental consequences from both construction and operation. The proposed site is adjacent to a community Greenfield site (The Cornfield project), used daily by dog walkers as well as families using the numerous picnic areas contained within it. Caldicot Castle and Country Park are within ½ mile, which is also used for food festivals and outdoor concerts exposing even more people to potential harm. In the village there is an infant/junior school whilst a newly built comprehensive lies within two miles. Furthermore there is already one housing development locally of 212 houses and a proposed development of 285 houses and dementia care facility to be built virtually opposite this facility. Residents of Severnside have the human right to clean air and their health protected. Transport of the Waste to the plant causes another issue, with huge diesel lorries coming and going from Bristol to the property throughout the day passing both the country park, new development and dementia care facility on the Crick Road site in Portskewett. The company will be self regulated meaning they would be responsible for reporting their own breaches. In other self-regulatory plants it has been reported there have been over 1000 breaches recorded. And whilst it is implied the emissions from the plant “Will not harm the health of residents”, what safeguards are there for more vulnerable groups, including those with asthma, COPD and youngsters whose lung development can be stunted by pollution This plant may potentially release a cocktail of particulate matter, chemicals, metals, dioxins and furans - the most toxic chemicals known to science. The major source of dioxins & furans in the environment come from burning waste! Experts have warned these are all a major cause of cancers, birth defects, breathing difficulties and heart disease. These poisons will fall over a wide area around Severnside and beyond, wherever the winds take it. We urge MCC to disallow planning for the proposed stacks and to overturn its original decision (DC/2017/00563) to allow the site to be used for incineration. Sign this petition. Save our future generations by saying no to incineration.
