• Vote using an app. Give us more information and influence
Benefits * a more realistic reflection of the countries opinions * A more modern approach to voting, making it easier and quicker for people to do so. * A faster way to count votes with a more accurate result * People will feel like they have more influence and control over the political issues in our country * Easier for people to get involved with issues that they are particularly passionate about * People will have a more educated approach to voting as full information will be provided before voting. * Younger people will engage with their government and politics more. * Easier for over seas and military voters "Petitioning, a practice from medieval times, was used by the working class in the 19th century to demand the vote in their millions; yet the government of the time was quick to reject the multiple petitions they presented. The Speaker, John Bercow, promised that the internet would change all this. Indeed the public appetite for petitions has not abated. When the government launched its own e-petitions site two years ago, the volume of traffic caused it to crash on its first day. E-petitions can and do work. Remember when Malalai Joya was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize or when BBC 6 Music was saved from closure? How about when campaigners won a fight to keep a woman on our banknotes? These campaigns owe their success to the rise of digital platforms such as change.organd 38 Degrees." - theguardian.co.uk Let us once again petition to change the way that the UK public vote and influence politics, using the power of online petitioning, to ultimately create the equivalent power of online politics and voting. Sign up now and be a part of the modern political movement!

  • Keep Fatima Naoot Out Of Prison
Fatima Naoot's case should never have made it to court. It suggests the state is turning a blind eye to the advocates of religious extremism. As for the nature of the religious festival Fatima criticized - I won't upset you with the details. • Tax Avoidance, No Vote
The principle of reciprocity currently seems violated by those refusing to pay what they are due whilst taking full advantage of their right to have their voice heard in how the nation is governed; seemingly undermining the principles of a democratic nation. Depriving tax dodgers of their right to vote may help tackle this trend, whilst adding to the national treasury, which seemingly fits in with the intent of current austerity programmes.

  • UK Government To Force All Supermarkets To Give Unsold Food To The Needy
There is far to much food waste when we have people going hungry. All stores should be required to donate unwanted food to charities and to food banks. It should apply to any supermarket with a footprint of 400 square metres or larger. If companies flout the law they are to incur fines. Supermarkets are to sign a donation deal with charities, which will be able to increase the quality and diversity of food that they currently get and distribute. In terms of nutritional balance, they currently have a deficit of meat and a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables. This will hopefully allow food-banks to push a fresh source of nutritional quality food to people and families in need.

David Cameron announced we’ll welcome 20,000 more Syrian refugees. But there’s a catch. This will take 5 years, leaving thousands of refugees in limbo. It’s now up to us to show that in cities, towns and villages all across the country we’re ready to welcome people now. Aylan, the toddler who drowned fleeing Syria, was just three years old. His town was under attack by Isis. His five year old brother and his mum also died trying to reach safety. We don't want Britain to be the kind of country that turns its back as people drown in their desperation to flee places like Syria. So let's stand up for Britain's long tradition of helping refugees fleeing war. Let's show the Prime Minister that we, the people of the UK, are proud to do our part and provide refuge to people in their hour of need. Please sign and share, or start your own petition for your town or city here: https://you.38degrees.org.uk/efforts/refugees-welcome

  • Were people denied votes in the 2015 UK General Election?
This is important because the UK is currently ruled by a Conservative government who are in power by the slimmest of margins. If all the people who were denied a postal vote had voted, would the outcome be different? Would the UK not now be suffering from the effects of austerity, the threat of fracking, the withdrawal of welfare and services to the needy and the tripling of the national debt? If the UK is a truly democratic country, I think this needs to be investigated.

  • Bring Back Spitting Image - The time is ripe for Political Satire
Politics in the UK, EU and across the world has never been more important, nor has the need to satirise it. Currently MSM fails to question our politicians in a way that resonates. Maybe our news and current affairs programmes have always been that way, but TV programming hasn't. Spitting Image was the attack dog of the MSM in the 80's. It didn't matter who you were, if you were a public figure, it would tackle you, it would bring you to the ground, it would openly challenge you and it would mock you. But always in a humorous way. Yes it was offensive, but more importantly it was truthful, accurate and downright side splittingly funny. We need this now more than ever.

  • Implement an Ethical Foreign Policy
UK's foreign policy is the root cause of injustice that in return has contributed to nurturing extremism, terrorism, wars and massive human casualties. It is the reason why there's a migration crisis that is further dividing people rather than growing harmony. The UK discriminates Nations and Humans based on its national interests. For example, the UK doesn't see Saudi Arabia as a Regime, even though it sees Syria and Russia or any other nation that doesn't full fill its national interests as Regimes.

  • Make david cameron take sensitivity training toward suffering people fleeing torture and conflict
For the leader of our country to make remarks so carelessly about such a terrible issue is in my eyes unforgivable and shameful. This is the man elected to represent us all in the UK on the world stage and I for one would like to see him make amends for this error by learning more about the issue he casually commented on.

  • Rochdale Council - Set a NEEDS budget not one of CUTS!
Some say there is no alternative but Rochdale Borough Council could use just a portion of its £169.6m in useable reserves to avoid making the £37m worth of cuts over the next two years. Even the Government suggest that ‘local authorities lessen the impact of budget cuts by tapping into their huge reserve pots’ – Telegraph, 31st August. We call on the Labour group on Rochdale Borough Council to take these steps whilst councillors go out into the communities, workplaces and trade union branches to build support for a no-cuts budget and have a genuine consultation with the people of Rochdale. They could then make an appeal to other Labour councils to do the same, making the Tory government’s savage cuts unworkable. Jeremy Corbyn said in his election campaign that councils should stand together against the cuts. This is the direction that the Labour Party must go in to end austerity and safeguard our public services.

  • Renewing Trident Must Be Put Before A Referendum
It is of national importance that the renewal of Trident as a nuclear 'deterrent' should be put forward to the people of Britain. Using clear and concise language the arguments for and against its renewal should be debated and presented to the public so that they can make an informed decision about whether they wish to renew Trident or not. Trident's renewal is not an issue that can be decided by parliamentarians on our behalf, it does require the unequivocal support of the people, via direct democracy. Any decision that would have direct implications on our nation's present and future, to the extent that renewing our nuclear capabilities has, is of the highest importance and should only be decided on a one person one vote basis.
