KEEP Weston Primary Academy School OPEN!The Academies Enterprise Trust, the Department of Education along with various Isle of Wight councillors have an intended decision to close Weston Primary Academy. The Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan has " in principal " agreed to this decision. This agreeance is based solely on the AeT and DfE paperwork, that seems to be based on a projected "forecast" that has yet to be released to the public. Not foregoing that all of the teaching staff, work staff and the parents of the 56 children who attend were informed by an email, followed promptly by a letter, inevitable job losses will occur - zero consultation with those that matter has taken place behind closed doors. We now find ourselves in a public consultation period **edit : there is NO public consultation, only a time to air views and opinions** that has a limited time-scale to air any counter arguments or views. The purpose of this petition is to clearly show that our beloved school has supporters. Weston Primary is the only non-denominational school locally, and whilst its numbers are relatively small, it does not suffer from large over capacity as some others locally do, consequently the children and parents have an amazing " Team Weston"-spirit, everyone really matters here. With a lot of recent housing developments in the West Wight region, and acute awareness that schools are becoming overcrowded, it makes no sense to close this school based on a forecast, when the school is getting on its feet and showing marked improvement. The AeT has over the summer period spent an undisclosed sum of money bringing much needed modernisation to the school. If the school is shut down, it would be a huge waste of resources. The adjoining nursery has also seen investment and is already showing that it is feeding more and more directly into the school itself. As people move into the local area, I suspect that Weston will see a marked increase in admissions. We at Team Weston are appealing directly to you, the reader, to show your support for this school. You may be an old pupil or parent of an old pupil, you may have had an association with the school in the past or present. maybe you understand that good schools should be kept open, especially considering this school is well over 100 years old. Please, please take a few moments to sign to show your support for us in our battle. It might just be the linchpin that sways the final decision in our favour. Kindest regards - George Metcalf608 of 800 SignaturesCreated by George Metcalf

No to UK Military Intervention in SyriaUK military intervention will cause nothing other than further misery for the people of Syria who already face terror and chaos in their lives. The UK should aim to cease the arms deals in the Middle East to achieve a peace, not contribute further to the bloodshed. After a majority of Labour MPs voted in favour in an illegal war based on lies, that was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, Labour MPs should stand firm in a rejection of further military actions in the Middle East. Only this action can show the public that history has not repeated itself and that their position as public servants is one they hold with honour. Let the Labour Party stand for negotiations for peace, not votes for death and destruction. Peace for people, not war for mongers.198 of 200 SignaturesCreated by L Leonard

Let us Move the MusicImagine you have a collection of CDs that you can't play except on your computer. You want to play the music on those CDs on your IPod at the gym, driving to work, or just relaxing. However, now that this new law is in place, you can't without risking prosecution. The only way you can play the music you have is to buy it off ITunes or Amazon, and would you really want to have to pay for something you already own simply because you want to play it on another device? After all, putting music on your IPod from a CD isn't hurting anyone. You're not selling it, you're not requesting or obtaining any commercial gain from it, the artist still gets their royalties from the purchase of the CD. You may think the record company, maybe even the artist is just trying to extort money out of you, and that's before even considering the future, when you would not be allowed to even move music from one device to another through ITunes. Every device you own has to have its own copy of the songs you want to play. Now imagine you are wanting to convert an audio performance that is now out of print, and can only be obtained on CD. If you feel it should be preserved, you are not allowed to do this, since you cannot rip CDs any more. Therefore, that performance, which you think is fabulous and has been praised by critics, will be lost. If this ruling is not amended, then we will be moving towards a slippery slope where no one can have audio that is not bought for a specific device. This may also lead to software developers not giving users replacement activation keys if they change computers, as they will have to buy another copy of the software simply to use it on a replacement computer. Even more concerningly, it could lead to people with print disabilities no longer being able to scan physical books and other printed materials for personal use, and CD ripping is much the same as scanning a book to read it in an alternative format. This is worrying, since publishers only permitted the scanning of books by print disabled people only about 13 years ago, and that was only after a long battle with them. It would be a terable misfortune if those people could not scan books anymore, particularly since that is the only way for some people to be able to read books , and specialist library services, such as the RNIB library, are very limited in what books they can offer. This law is impracticable, unrealistic, and completely unenforceable. Moreover, it is almost certain to backfire, as people will just continue to rip their CDs, simply because they know they can get away with it.4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Samuel Wilkins

Hands Off Enfield Local Studies Centre and Archives - No Cuts! The extensive resources and experienced staff within Enfield Local Studies Centre and Archives are the heritage jewel in the crown for the Borough of Enfield. The Council is keen to use them to publicise themselves yet with no forethought of true costs plans to render these services virtually unusable. Other archives have tried digitalisation at great expense. This is discrimination against older people and others who do not have access to and cannot afford the internet. Ancestry.co.uk will not provide free access, apart from their free library edition when accessed in a library, certainly NOT at home which would have to be subscription based. This centre also obtains grants to interview local people about their pasts - specifically WW1 and WW2. These intergenerational projects involve the whole community and provides a historical resource for future generations. I have undertaken some of the interviewing so I have witnessed the value of information given and the pleasure local residents have experienced in telling their stories. Please also take part in the council consultation which closes on 18 October 2015. Save the very first railway from destruction. The future of the very first inter-city passenger railway, which opened on 15th September 1830, is under threat. The Manchester Liverpool Road railway station is where it all began: from the railways of old, which made our modern civilisation possible, to the railways of the today, which provide the sustainable transport needed to combat climate change. This incredible part of our international history, with its grade 1 and 2* listed buildings, is in essence, a working station, though it is cared for by the Museum of Science and Industry. It is still connected to the National Rail Network: you can visit the station today, on a real steam train, just as people have done for the past 185 years. Network rail want to change that: as part of an otherwise welcome scheme to connect Manchester Victoria to Manchester Piccadilly, they plan to sever the line. The very first railway will no longer BE a railway: just a museum piece, nothing more. Part of a depressing wider trend of poor strategy and planning, slow obliteration of Northern history and culture and legal wrangling over common sense issues at the tax payers expense, this case involves a 3 million pound "deal" with the Museum of Science and Industry who have abandoned their responsibility to protect this site and a crass lack of respect by National Rail for the history of their own raison d'etre.229 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Anna Morris

Refugees Welcome in Hemel HempsteadBecause we are fellow human beings, that's all. This is something we can really help with. We have a moral duty, and its time we did something human for our fellow humans. Aylan, the toddler who drowned fleeing Syria, was just three years old. His town was under attack by Isis. His five year old brother and his mum also died trying to reach safety. Yet our prime minister said ‘we won't take any more refugees’. He thinks that most of us don't care. But 38 Degrees members do care. We don't want Britain to be the kind of country that turns its back as people drown in their desperation to flee places like Syria. So let's stand up for Britain's long tradition of helping refugees fleeing war. Let's show the Prime Minister that we, the people of the UK, are proud to do our part and provide refuge to people in their hour of need. Lift the legal block on minimum unit pricing for alcohol in ScotlandThe Scottish Parliament passed the bill to introduce MUP in May 2012, with widespread support from political parties, health professionals and charities who deal with the consequences of alcohol misuse. Despite also gaining support from some alcohol drinks producers, the Scottish Whisky Association launched a legal challenge to the bill, delaying its implementation by years, and postponing the proven benefits of MUP on family and social life in Scottish communities. http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/parliamentarybusiness/Bills/43354.aspx32 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kenneth Barker

Keep Gourmet Street Food in Perceval Square."As many of you are aware, we have been told by the council that we are no longer allowed to have our trailer in Perceval Square. We are really upset about this as they only gave us permission in the beginning because "we were offering something unique and different". To change their minds now, we feel is really unfair. All we ever wanted to do was to bring something new to Stornoway - we are currently 2nd on Tripadvisor for restaurants in Stornoway (we must be doing something right) and we see you all as friends. We had a meeting recently with the council and we asked them if there was anything we could do to help resolve the situation. "Move" was the answer." Gourmet Street food is a small local business, using local produce which brings to the town something that is both unique and highly valued in it's offering. Perceval square as it stands is a under-utilised public realm which is brought to life by this focal point through the week offering not only great local food but also local hospitality and craic to both visitors and locals alike. We simply ask that the Comhairle support local businesses and be flexible in allowing trailers to operate in Perceval square.808 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Craig Cameron
