• Keep BBC Local Radio in England “local”.
Over the last few years communities across the UK have lost their local commercial stations which have in effect been replaced by national stations with bare bones local opt outs at breakfast. BBC are now the main provider of truly local radio across the UK, providing news and information relevant to your local area, specialist music programmes, and programmes that cater for minority audiences. It seems when cutbacks are made at the BBC local services always seem to be hit first. Sadly the current proposals seem to be drastically eroding the local service and the fear is that over time this important service will disappear all together.

  • Delay the opening of pubs and clubs untill after pandemic has passed
This is important because as a nation we are still recovering from covid-19 and its way to early to allow pubs and clubs to open or sell alcohol until the pandemic is over. Most people can control them selves but you always get those who can't and will drink to excess and get drunk these intoxicated people will then get loud, disorderly stop social distancing and even start trouble like get into fights, and that's how the pandemic could get going again because at least a few of those people will have covid-19 symptoms and it only takes one or two spreading it for a few days to force another lockdown. This would also put pressure on police and the NHS who could do without having to deal with intoxicated people arriving in A&E when they could be helping people who rally need it, its to early to be doing this.

  • Lift the alcohol ban on Glasgow's streets and parks
This has always been an attack on Glasgow's working class. Not everyone can afford to go to the pub and not everyone has a garden. Yet, we are unable to drink alcohol in a park or on the streets like we see in Edinburgh. This is particularly damaging in the current Covid crisis. We must lift this ban to ensure people can enjoy what little freedom we have right now. We demand the same rights as Edinburgh. We are tired of being branded criminals for exercising freedoms while posing no risk to others.

  • Save Somerville Hall
We have already lost the Pre School which ran for 50+ years due to St Chads Church closing the hall. Also, our Guides, Karate Group and other functions/groups have all ceased because of their decision to close Somerville Hall. Somerville Hall also has a Covenant dating back to when the land was given to the church and the council in 1957. This was to protect the land from any development that didn’t facilitate the needs of the local community. In 2019 it was also awarded an Asset of Community Value listing by Redbridge Council. This essentially saves buildings that are proven to perform a unique service when there are no other places locally that can perform that task. It is in a nutshell a asset to the community. It says exactly what it does on the tin! It was a valuable resource that has been taken away from us and will remain so if St Chads Church isn’t made to look at its conscience and reopen it for our community. Contrary to some reports, the hall is not derelict. It is not pretty, and at the moment could be tarted up with a lick of paint and some tender loving care. Our campaigners have even offered our services to the Church to help them in cleaning up the Hall. However, these offers of help have fallen on deaf ears. Just to clarify, at the time of closure the hall had been awarded and passed an Ofsted inspection. So very far from derelict. Up until recently our plan was to petition The Church of England to just re open the hall and for it to be used as before by our community. But as of the beginning of May the Church Reverend has lodged an Appeal to overturn Redbridge Councils decision. We were hoping the Church would see sense about this as we need precious community space due to this Covid Crisis. However, the Church is still pursuing this property development cash raiser. Please help us and sign our petition.

  • A statue for Dame Vera Lynn
We need to commemorate the Force’s Sweetheart with a statue. Dame Vera Lynn was a shining light during WW2 and kept many hearts beating with the ideal that we could come out of the other side stronger and better. She uplifted the spirits of millions through the traumatic war and should be remembered for the real hero she was.

  • Commission a sculpture of Dame Vera Lynn
The publicly seen sculpture ‘population’ of this country needs a radical overhaul. We need many more sculptures of women who have made their mark and left a legacy of hope and kindness. In Dame Vera’s recent speech to remember the 75th anniversary of D-Day and with the COVID-19 pandemic in mind she said that the key to getting through any crisis is 'to come together to help one another and be kind'.

  • Erect a statue of Shirley Bassey in Cardiff
Recent events have made people more aware of our history and what figures we honour and celebrate with statues and monuments. Shirley Bassey is someone who came from humble beginnings in the old Tiger Bay of Cardiff who went on to achieve great success while still remembering her Cardiff/Welsh roots. Something permanent in the Welsh capital in honour of her would be a refreshing addition to the usual monuments and statues that we see of male aristocrats and landowners.
