Make Trains Cheaper! It is absolutely ridiculous that we are a first world country so committed to fighting climate change on all levels and yet it is cheaper to fly from Scotland to London than it is to get the train. I have a friend who lives near Birmingham. She couldn't afford to get the train back to Scotland for university and instead flew, which was much cheaper. It wasn't even easier or less time consuming once she had made it to the airport, checked in, waited for the flight, boarded, flew, got through the other end and made the rest of the journey by train and bus. However, it was cheaper. You may also have heard the story of the guy for whom it was cheaper to fly to Barcelona, spend the night and fly back to his university city than it was just to get the train. WHY are train journeys so expensive when they should be the cheapest way to get around the country? WHY do we keep saying we're trying to improve the climate situation but are taking actions that directly affect it in more ways than one. And WHY does the government keep ignoring this? They're in denial and it's time we took radical action to actually change the way the country functions.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Bethany Carol

Banish garden waste bin chargesRemoving the free fortnightly garden waste bin collection covered by the householders council tax payment to allegedly save funds is going to cause additional costs. With householders being charged to collect garden waste from their homes it will encourage fly tipping of the garden waste in other locations. This will then require additional resources to manage and clean the area affected with this new fly tipping problem. There will still be a kerbside collection of garden waste, presently collected with the existing garden waste. It appears counterproductive to cancel part of a service when the refuse collection trucks will still be visiting the houses.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Graham Vincent

Minimum Pricing on CottonWe engage ourselves with this invisible world, and it's up to us to ethically make right choices. We need to think about the people who have to make this cotton, and the environments where they are made.1 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mark C

Amazon - please stop using plastic bubble wrap envelopesWe are all becoming more aware of the devastating impact of single use plastic. The increasing (or any) use of this for posting Amazon products has a massive impact given how many parcels they send on a daily basis. This seems to be a huge step backwards at a time when we need to focus on finding sustainable ways to move forward.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Stephanie Wheeler

Zero Emission 100% Electric CarsFact: The gas fueled, internal combustion cars typically driven by Europeans have deteriorated our environment. Think About It: Global warming can be halted with the zero emission 100% Electric Vehicles (EVs) that are made with NiMH batteries whose use is currently being suppressed by Chevron Oil Corporation. Fact: GM has been given $50Billion worth of our tax payer bail out money. Think About It: In 1996, GM had the car of the century, the EV1. The EV1 ran due to the NiMH battery patents acquired by Chevron Oil Corporation. GM crushed ALL OF THEIR CARS shortly thereafter. Why are our tax dollars paying to bail out our automotive industry when our same tax dollars paid for the invention of the NiMH batteries? Fact: In 2005 alone Chevron grossed over $125 Billion (Up 35% from 2004). Think About It: “?” Think About It: The NiMH battery technology is proven with the past ten years of high performance of Toyota RAV 4 EVs made with NiMH batteries. Why waste more of our tax dollar money on technology we already have? Wouldn’t that money be better spent on our ailing health care system? Think About It: The government has exercised Eminent Domain and /or Compulsory Licensing during much less desperate times and for purposes serving much less of the greater good. Yes, it comes at a price, but the amount paid to Chevron would be much less than ongoing cost of Reign of Big Oil. Think About It: What was this war all about? Why are our soldiers dying to preserve Iraqi Oil Fields when we have the battery patents to an emission free, alternative energy technology RIGHT NOW!2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Digriz Digriz

inflight carbon-offset announcementsThis is of existential importance because we are experiencing a climate crisis, to which airlines contribute on a massive scale. Countless people who fly are unaware of offset programs. This is one small way of fighting global warming, which can be instituted immediately, without cost to airlines.9 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Dennis Wardleworth

Stop selling faux/artificial plastic plantsThere seems to be a fashion now for fake plants, particularly succulents at the moment and unfortunatley these are made of plastic. In this time of climate crisis and when we are drowning in the sea of plastic already on this planet, why on earth are retail outlets including many of the major supermarkets, making/selling more, for something so frivolous and when plants can so easily be grown, maintained and seeds bought cheaply. Not to mention how real house plants improve our oxygen, health and wellbeing. Let's stop this insanity now.21 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jemma Thompson

Stand up for Dandelions - 'Wild Flowers Not Weeds'The wild flower - the Dandelion is a beneficial plant to humans, every part of which can be consumed and in some countries it is cultivated for these purposes. It is also a first source of food for bees in the spring. The advertising of the dandelion as a weed means that people are ill informed about the benefits and beauty of this plant and more bees die as a result. People should be encouraged to use other more natural means to remove dandelions or learn to appreciate them and let them be! For the sake of the Bees and the earth altogether.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Karen Baldry

Croydon Pollinator ProjectI have tried emailing Croydon Council, contacting MP's and even have met with one to submit a proposal to back my idea, only to hear nothing back despite multiple emails. So, this is all I have left aside from going vigilante by planting wildflowers everywhere. Pollinators are dying across the globe; we need them for our food and they are vital for the ecosystem. The journal 'Nature Communications' believes that the largest factor driving this is loss of habitats and shrinking ranges. I have personally been informed multiple times by Croydon Council that 'Croydon has over 120 parks which provide a wide rich mixture of plants for bees and butterflies.' This, however, is not enough as many of these parks do not contain wildflowers and are mowed so regularly, that more common wildflowers (like dandelions) cannot grow and thus pollinators, like bees, cannot feed. As global warming is changing traditional weather patterns, many butterflies, like the marbled white, are emerging too early to feed on their preferred food source; thus many are starving and are not able to mate. So, while planting broad ranging wildflowers that open in the summer months, we must also consider growing wildflowers that open earlier in spring and last late into autumn in order to sustain them throughout the unpredictable weather. No food for pollinators means no food for humans. It is simple really; planting more wildflowers will cut down on maintenance costs and help the environment. The wiping out of pollinators marks a serious environmental problem which we need to turn around. Unused areas of green space around Croydon can be turned into miniature meadows which will help reverse it and will also be strikingly beautiful. This impacts all of us and it needs to be taken seriously. We need 1,000 signatures for this to be discussed by the council, so let's get there! Thank you.60 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lizzie O'Brien
