• Buy one send one free
BBC has stated that Nigeria, Yemen, Somalia and South Sudan are facing the greatest famine for over 60 years. Millions of people especially children are at risk. We are currently wasting huge amounts of food often through over buying as supermarkets encourage us through their 'buy one get one free' campaigns. We take more than we need.

  • Abolish the Social Housing Bedroom Allocation policy
The housing allocation policy that accompanies the spare room subsidy has done nothing more than stop families from finding a home or forcing them into accommodation too small for purpose and children and young adults forced to share bedrooms. To add to the misery it forces people to live in the short term and not allowing families to settle into a home

  • No Royal Visit to Israel please!
The Royal Family have never yet undertaken a state visit to Israel. Now is the worst time to start, with the apartheid system in Israel becoming ever more entrenched and Palestinians (and other ethnic groups) suffering more and more. This visit would be to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, and I'd point out that that Declaration included the commitment that "nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestineā€. This is an approach which Israel has signally failed to adopt. Many ordinary people deplore the actions of the Israeli state and actively pursue a non-violent course of boycotting the country. That's the most effective peaceful weapon that ordinary people have. Please stand with us on this cause, and against a violent and prejudiced state. The support of the Royal family would mean a lot.

  • Keep Walkers at Peterlee open
As the North East is one of the most unemployed areas in the country, an additional loss of around 400 jobs, on top of the jobs lost last year from steel works closures, would be a massive loss to the area and would also see a number of families left without an income.

  • Protect Cranleigh (and surrounding villages) from Asbestos Fibres in Our Drinking Water
There is no safe level of asbestos exposure. We don't want to wait 30 years for a cancer cluster in Cranleigh to prove that we are at risk from our drinking water. We want independent testing to be carried out now to assess the risk to public health. Almost 30% of the drinking water supply pipes in Cranleigh (highlighted in pink on the above map) are made from asbestos cement (AC), compared to a reported average of 2% throughout the rest of the Thames Water Region. The pipes are between 50 and 70 years old and frequently burst, increasing the amount of free asbestos fibres entering the drinking water supply. Evidence shows that ageing AC drinking water pipes also degrade internally over time through water friction and low pH levels, releasing free asbestos fibres into the drinking water supply. Furthermore, an increase in water pressure within these deteriorating AC pipes to accommodate significant housing development in Cranleigh will lead to more bursts and the release of more asbestos fibres. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has been testing for asbestos fibres in drinking water since 1992 due to decaying AC water mains. No one is testing our drinking water for asbestos fibres, no one is calculating the risk to residents in Cranleigh.

  • Companion bus pass
Other counties such as Nottinghamshire, Devonshire, East Sussex do pay for companion bus passes for carers of disabled people. They get grants for the government to do it. It is a discretionary thing not a mandatory. However, Lack of the findings for other counties is jeopardising people's independence as it is unfair and immoral for carers to having to pay to go on a bus with a disabled person.

  • Let Hoops and Loops (LGBT Asylum Seekers and Refugees) keep their name.
Hoops and Loops is a support and social group for LGBT asylum seekers in South Wales, established in 2015 with DPIA, and became associated with Race Equality First in 2016. The group have established an identity under this name, and are recognised in the community. They are not formally incorporated in to Race Equality First, and having decided to no longer be affiliated with REF are being told they cannot keep their name and threatened with legal action. This is intimidation, and is harmful to members of the group and their identity as a group. They must be allowed to keep their name.

  • Refugee children deserve our help
Unaccompanied refugee children in Europe are alone and afraid. They are cold and hungry and at the mercy of traffickers. They were offered the hope of a refuge in Britain but Amber Rudd in the government has decided to put an end to the prospect of their finding a safe home in Britain even though the Dubs agreement specified that 3000 children would be helped. So far only 300 children have been accepted. This is a cruel blow to the hopes of the rest of these children which has been condemned by MPs from all parties and by Religious leaders of all faiths. We beseech Amber Rudd to show British values of fairness, decency and tolerance and allow a safe passage to Britain for all these very vulnerable children.
