• Protect Clayton Road and Stour Close from Traffic Chaos
We have to move quickly to prevent Persimmon Homes from going ahead with this request. The additional traffic along our already congested residential roads will lead to further congestion and the potential for more accidents. We see this as an attempt by Persimmon Homes to overturn the planning condition to build the access via a new roundabout on the A120.

  • “CLEAN" ENERGY TECHNOLOGY PARK IS A NUCLEAR NIGHTMARE
“Clean” Energy Security? The raw material for nuclear is uranium which can be found in in the UK in the Orkneys but which our government buys from, for example Kazakhstan where it is largely mined by leaching out the uranium from the rock using massive amounts of fresh water and chemicals. “Clean” Carbon footprint? Nuclear is at least the third highest carbon emitter after coal-fired plants and natural gas. As uranium becomes more scarce more energy and chemicals are needed to get the uranium out of the ground. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority have calculated their carbon footprint for 2019/20 as 1,046,950 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). This does not include operation of nuclear reactors or include the building of Hinkley Point C with the biggest pour of concrete in the UK ever. The nuclear and fossil fuel industry are mutually intertwined. The biggest gas plant being constructed in the UK right now is at Sellafield, home to 80 percent of the UK's existing nuclear waste which needs to be kept cool. The heating effect of discharges to the atmosphere and sea and also the use of water as a coolant for reactors and nuclear wastes are all contributing to ocean temperature rise and climate change. An honest description of Nuclear would be : Radioactive Fossil Fuel by proxy. “Clean” Radioactive Emissions Radioactive emissions occur at every stage of the nuclear fuel cycle from the mining of uranium to enrichment, to fuel manufacture, to operation of the reactors, to the “disposal” of nuclear wastes. These emissions occur both routinely and accidentally and have already resulted in large swathes of the world’s land and oceans becoming irreversibly polluted with man-made radioactive isotopes. "Clean" and Healthy? Radiation can damage the DNA in our cells. High doses of radiation can cause Acute Radiation Syndrome or Cutaneous Radiation Injuries. There is no such thing as a “safe dose” of radiation The “Clean Energy Technology Park” just 3.9 miles from the centre of Preston is planning an incinerator to burn intermediate level radioactive wastes from across Europe. This would result in daily plumes of chemical and radio-toxic airborne fine particle emissions blowing accross Preston City Centre. We call for the word “Clean” to be replaced by - Nuclear - at the "Clean Energy Technology Park".

  • Protect Vicary's Mills and Leat
We have lost huge amounts of history over the last several decades. Newton Abbot is a thriving market town with 800 years of market history. The Mills are a substantial part of this. They employed hundreds of people during the Industrial Revolution. We must protect and restore these impressive buildings and medieval leat. As shown by the alternative proposals, the site can be converted and brought fully to life, with a greater number of homes than the current planning application. Demolition will also release countless tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere, which along with mass construction is a highly damaging and backwards step in a time of climate crisis.

  • Stop Mary Ball’s Death Mask and Coventry police exhibits being lost to Birmingham.
These exhibits need to be put on display in the city they relate too. These belong to the city and not the county. Should they be moved away from coventry they will likely never return as a whole.

  • Save the No 7 bus route for Hoath and surrounding villages - Save the school bus to Spires Academy
Please sign this petition if you are affected by the loss of the No 7 bus service and the Spires School Service and let Matthew Arnold at Stagecoach Kent know why he needs to reinstate these bus routes. This decision affects residents in Beltinge, Reculver, Hillborough, Castle Chase, Maypole, Knaves Ash, Hoath, Sturry and Broad Oak. We may only be small communities but our need for this bus route is vital to the health and wellbeing of all residents.

  • Stop the closure of Budhmor Residential Home in Portree, Isle of Skye
Isle of Skye does not have a lot of spaces available for old people to be cared for. At the moment Home Farm has 17 residents and if the 15 residents from Budhmor are homed there it will leave only space for 3 more residents from the whole island. The staff are being made redundant at a time when the economy on the island is at an all time low.

  • Create a safe north-to-south cycling, walking and scooting route across Nottingham
This is an ambitious step towards making Nottingham an easier and more pleasant place to move around by bicycle, scooter, or on foot. Creating a safe route, physically separated from motor traffic using barriers, bollards and planters, will mean that active travel is an option for all residents including children, older people and those who are less confident on roads. Active travel has numerous health and wellbeing benefits, it needs to be accessible for everyone. Implementation of the active travelway, will significantly help both Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council reach ambitious carbon goals as it will enable more people to move away from using motorised transport. Air quality will be improved as the number of cars on our roads decreases. The active travelway will be a huge step towards creating an active travel network that the city can be proud of. The active travelway will connect neighbourhoods, shopping centres, employers and educational and sporting institutions, as well as providing an easier link to Nottingham rail station. It will benefit a wide range of organisations across the city.

  • Withdraw London Resort's NSIP status
London Resort first submitted an application to build a theme park on Swanscombe Peninsula in 2014. Since then this nature haven has been designated as a Site of Scientific Special Interest (SSSI), offering it protected status. The site is home to rare wildife and plants - 1,700 invertebrate species, 80+ species of breeding birds, rare orchids and water voles. Despite the environmental significance of the site, that the local roads are already buckling under the traffic demands and pollution is sky high in this area, the application to build a theme park here still remains. The project has been classed as an Nationally Significant Infastructure Project (NSIP), which means that the plans get to bypass the usual scrutiny of the local authorities. This NSIP was supposedly awarded due to the jobs being offered by the London Resort project. However, the peninsula is already home to 140+ active businesses, that provide 1,000s of skilled local jobs! The business owners have described feeling like they are on death row, having had the shadow of this application looming over them for over a decade now. We the, undersigned, ask that this NSIP status is revoked, so that the local businesses can move forward and the community can contintue to enjoy this treasured green space for generations to come.

  • Make Cross-in-Hand Junction safer
I write with serious concern for local people who have for many years had to negotiate the junction of the A267 and B2102 at Cross In Hand. I can remember all the changes to the junction which have been made over the years to try and solve the problem of accidents occurring when traffic is trying to exit from the Lewes Road, vehicles turning right or left onto it from the A267 as well as vehicles traveling past the junction. Let us not forget either, pedestrians trying to cross the A267 to get to the bus stop or indeed the garage. I am also aware of people who regularly cycle this route and have many near misses where drivers have lost patience with trying to get out of this junction and egressing from the Esso Garage too. Other near misses are when the bus tries to pull out of the layby and when vehicles are exiting the garage and have nearly had collisions even if the bus is not in the layby because visibility from this junction is not good as the bend is sharp enough that even at 40MPH vehicles coming from the right, must brake hard on many occasions to avoid an accident. I dare to say that in my opinion, as a proficient driver, the changes that have been made have not worked and although this has been looked into for many years, enough is enough, especially after the death of the pedestrian on Tuesday 22nd March. Something needs to be done urgently before other families are bereaved. This has hit the whole community badly many people are upset. Clearly, something could be done to help prevent this. How many more lives must be lost before action is taken? Even one life lost is too many! This is an important campaign to help save the lives of drivers and pedestrians who use this major trunk road.
