  • Make It Easier for Renters to Obtain a Mortage
It is important to realise that even people who are on the middle or lower income bracket are entitled to homeownership, even if they haven’t met the minimum income requirements or do not have millions to show in their bank statements. People have different means to cope with their limited budget, and being able to work through their tight finances and manage to pay rent on time is more than enough reason to help these people purchase their own home. Mortgage Advice Brighton started this petition with the goal of helping tenants throughout the seemingly impossible path to homeownership. Join us in our fight by signing this petition today!

  • Make housing developers be transparent in Nottingham
Current planning law states that if a developer will make less than 20% profit on a new development, they can ignore a council's regulations about building affordable and social housing. Leaked documents from several developers have shown that the maths they use to work out their profit margins are purposefully misleading, allowing them to claim they will make less than 20% profit on a development by undervaluing the prices of the houses they will sell and over-costing the labour. To combat this Islington, Greenwich, Lambeth and Bristol councils have introduced a policy that forces developers "viability assessments" to be made public. By bringing their faulty maths into the public domain, Councils, campaigning groups and individuals will be enabled to hold developers to account and force them to use more honest maths.

  • Stop Ocado's self driving vehicles in London
It is important for one simple reason: It puts people out of jobs. Let's start with stopping Ocado's trials for self-driving vehicles in London, and then move on to stopping drones, self service points in supermarkets, and anywhere else that threatens hard working people' jobs and only serves to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.

  • Give paramedics body armour
Today, following a Freedom of Information request, it was revealed shocking statistics that show that hundreds of addresses in the UK are considered 'dangerous places' for paramedics to go into. It is a sad state of affairs when it is unsafe for men and women, seeking only to help people in need of urgent medical attention, cannot enter a property without police escorts in place to protect them from harm. The homes have been blacklisted by the Ambulance Service because of previous incidents in which paramedics have been physically assaulted, (including being stabbed and beaten), subjected to verbal abuse or been attacked by dangerous dogs. The ambulance service is right to take every precaution to ensure the safety of its crews, but it is depressing that so many incidents are occurring. The tide of attacks on mercy crews is sadly still on the rise nationwide. Let's hope that this shameful tide turns soon and that the paramedics, who do such good work, will no longer be at such risk.

  • Make housing developers be transparent in Liverpool
Current planning law states that if a developer will make less than 20% profit on a new development, they can ignore a council's regulations about building affordable and social housing. Leaked documents from several developers have shown that the maths they use to work out their profit margins is either hidden from the public or purposefully misleading, allowing them to claim they will make less than 20% profit on a development by undervaluing the prices of the houses they will sell and over-costing the labour. To combat this Islington, Greenwich, Lambeth and Bristol councils have introduced a policy that forces developers "viability assessments" to be made public. This kind of policy should also be introduced in Liverpool. By bringing these dodgy maths into the public domain, Councils, campaigning groups and individuals will be able to hold developers to account and force them to use more honest maths. There are a number of internationally recognised projects working in Liverpool towards the development of new housing models, but the battle for affordable, high quality housing inevitably needs to be fought on many fronts. Changing the legislation to ensure all developers meet their responsibilities to the communities in which they are building will have tangible benefits to the people in the city.

  • Make Westferry Road Safe for Children & Residents
On Monday 26 June 2017, there was a serious accident on Westferry Road, in Canary Wharf Ward, Isle of Dogs, Tower Hamlets - an elderly woman was hit by a lorry and she is now, tragically, fighting for her life in hospital. As a local ward councillor, I am in contact with the family on regular basis and she remains in a critical condition. The family is grateful for many people who have shown concern and requesting everyone for prayers. I have sent an urgent message to the Council requesting a meeting with the Highways Officer to highlight the concerns on behalf of the residents. Many residents and stakeholders believe that in spite of 20 Mph speed limit – many vehicles go dangerously fast at this community hub with the local school, park, medical centre and shops, pubs etc. The zebra crossing - used by local residents, visitors and children - is not good or secure enough. We just can't afford any more accidents. Thank you, Cllr Maium Miah Canary Wharf ward 07983 798 791 London Borough of Tower Hamlets Town Hall, Mulberry Place 5 Clove Crescent London E14 2BG

  • Ensuring the UK has a social and private rented sector fit for purpose
Tenant's living in rented housing in the UK shouldn't need to set up protest sites to have their voice heard. This type of site is not effective and serious concerns can be missed, as often the message will never be seen by the intended recipient. Tragedies like Grenfell Tower might have been avoided had the residents had a direct line of communication, that delivered their concerns directly to the desk of the relevant housing team. The majority of housing staff are doing everything they can to make a difference, however, reduced budgets, staffing and available resources are having a significant impact. A system needs to be deployed immediately to provide 360 degree protection. The system needs to free up valuable staff time, whilst providing protection to all sides and a complete record of all communication between connected parties (provider and tenant). Every event and communication (on both sides) throughout the tenancy must be logged, date stamped and digitally signed. This will ensure, in the event of a dispute, or worse, ALL the facts and supporting information is available...signed, dated and in complete chronological order.

  • To All MPs: Vote Against the DUP-Tory Deal at the Queen's Speech
The DUP may have a mandate as elected representatives in Northern Ireland, but we believe their views do not represent the majority of progressive, sensible people in the UK, and it is deeply unfair that the deal is worth £1bn in extra funding for Northern Ireland whilst the rest of the UK continues to face austerity and cuts to public services. We are concerned that members of the DUP have previously expressed unacceptable views on LGBT+ people, and consistently voting against LGBT legislation in N.I. Iris Robinson, a former DUP MP and wife of the current party leader, Peter Robinson, described homosexuality as “disgusting, loathsome, nauseating, wicked and vile”, as well as an “abomination” that could be “cured”. These are views that are deeply disturbing and are deeply hurtful to those who have campaigned for equality for years, and indeed are hurtful to LGBT+ MPs. These views do not represent the modern United Kingdom, and we do not believe they should be part of our Government. We urge you to vote against the Queen’s Speech, and take a stand against homophobia, unfair deals and in favour of your constituents. Yours Sincerely, The Undersigned

  • More pay for firefighters
Firefighters risk their lives saving ours they have really demonstrated that with the recent devastating blaze of Grenfell tower I think it's about time someone fights for them ok it may not be realistic that they will get paid as much as footballers do but let's help them get a lot more then they get now. Firefighters risk their lives everyday and should be paid like their lives are worth something and are not just another employee in a basic job
