MPs to stand down after 2 terms in OfficeMany long serving MPs are simply "out of touch" with their electorate. Having received a well paid salary for years, they have no idea, how, many of their poorer constituents, have to cope on low wages or benefits !4 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Peter George

STOP PRIVATISATION OF CHANNEL 4Did you know that the BBC is not the only great British broadcasting institution to be under threat? If you hadn't heard already, Channel 4, our world-leading creative hub is also on the verge of disappearing in to the great corporate black hole. HM Treasury's desire to make a 'fast buck' out of Channel 4 for Chancellor George Osborne is out of control and needs to be stopped. Firstly, I didn't used to do these sorts of things because I never heard enough stories connected to 'petition activism' success to feel it was worth it (I know now, I'm wrong on this). I'm at a stage where I don't know where else to turn and I need your help. I believe in the British public and I'm hoping you'll believe in this petition too so as to, not just kick-start a debate in parliament about the future of Channel 4, but to once again dispel my previous critical view that petitions can only do 'so much'. Here are a few things that, I hope, will help you understand why I've decided to start this petition: - Channel 4 makes most of its money out of advertising, but it DOES NOT make a profit. Instead, it outsources and plunges that cash back into high-quality programmes produced by often small 'indie' production houses across Britain. - What's more, rules govern the channel that make sure a certain proportion of programmes MUST be made from outside of London, leading to the amazing success story that is the U.K.'s production sector. - Risk taking. There would be LESS as shareholders wouldn't want to take a risk on programmes that don't make them money straight away. - This includes the important role of holding high-powered individuals/corporations/governments to account. Also, experimental comedy (see Adam & Joe) and high-quality breaking news (see John Snow & team) would suffer as programming is gradually geared towards formulaic shows based entirely on ratings. - Think of the risks taken on the Paralympic games and the effort behind making it a success or how Steve McQueen became the first black director to win an Oscar for '12 Years A Slave' (yes, that was Channel 4-owned Film4). - If the channel is totally privatised, it means a lot of the outsourcing mentioned above will be brought in-house as a new revenue stream. This is fine for shareholders, but it means production companies, their employees and viewers across Britain will suffer as Channel 4's output will likely become centralised in London (contradicting the whole purpose of a 'balanced economy'). - Finally, there's the cultural, patriotic and financial side. Why, like EMI before them, would you want another great British icon to be PURCHASED by yet another faceless American giant, that reduces creative content to just another pay-per-view 'underwhelmer', whose new owners would likely have no real understanding or care about the audience it serves? Already, 'CEO hopefuls' are lining up for the job of running a privatised TV channel whose heritage is quintessentially British to the core. In some cases, applicants have quit already lucrative, high-ranking jobs just to apply. Please, I implore you. Don't make the mistake of allowing the sale of something ORIGINAL, that has taken years to create, that represents a diverse and modern Britain, that gives those with a multitude of talents a chance to shine whilst simultaneously enriching and entertaining viewers across the U.K. You will long for it when it's gone, believe me... Thank you.113 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Thomas Taplin

4Corby Children say no MORE cuts! The families of Corby depend upon the services provided by the local children's centres. Data shows that children in Corby statistically fair worse in education, income levels, life expectancy and health. Childrens centres mitigate against these challenges and further cuts to funding are unfair and indefensible.1,795 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by 4Corby Children

Help keep holidays the same across schools in Darwen.I am a parent of a child at DACA and also have a child at a local primary school. This Easter my children have completely different two week holidays; the youngest starts his holidays the day that DACA go back after theirs. I am really saddened that I can't spend any time over the end of term break together as a family as DACA have chosen not to follow the council's recommended holiday pattern. This is particularly upsetting as parents are now fined if they take their children out of school in term time and are in a lose / lose situation. Different holidays also make child care exceptionally difficult for many families. Out of schools holiday club providers are following the council's recommended end of term break so parents have been left stuck and struggling this Easter. The school expects its students and parents to show their support and promotes itself as being a part of the local community. Please could you give your students and parents the same support and respect by following the recommended holiday pattern, ensuring we can have quality family time and can arrange appropriate child care where necessary.319 of 400 SignaturesCreated by Joanne Birkner

Save Babington HospitalBabington Hospital in Belper could be closed and services moved if plans are given the green light. Babington Hospital was completed in 1840 and has provided cherished care for thousands of Derbyshire people ever since, from newly born babies to older people who need care and support. This includes numerous clinics and rehabilitation services for patients, before they return home, in a caring and safe environment. The CQC inspection of May 2014 said Babington is Safe, Caring, Effective, Well-led and Responsive to patients needs. Belper and the surrounding areas NEED Babington Hospital to remain as it is; an NHS service for local people. If these services could be replicated or improved upon, in an equally accessible local place, consideration to such a plan may be possible.5,861 of 6,000 SignaturesCreated by Mary Dwyer

Keep Dundee & Angus College open during the teacher strikeIn response to the planned national industrial strike action on Thursday the 17th of March Dundee and Angus College have taken the decision to close the College and its facilities on that day. By way of justification, the College Executive claims that it cannot guarantee the required number of support staff on the day to ensure compliance with mandatory health & safety regulations. This claim, however, does not account for the fact that support staff are not part of the academic staff and are therefore not involved in the strike action itself. This is a critical time of year for students on all courses due to final assessment deadlines and pending final exams very shortly due to occur. By closing the College, thereby denying students access to the needed resources for study, the College is putting unnecessary extra pressure upon students at a critical time of year which could have a serious negative impact upon their final results. This is a critical issue as many of these results will dictate whether students are able to secure places on University courses and progress in their academic studies. It is well within the College's abilities to ensure sufficient numbers of support staff to run the campus facilities during the strike action. Failure to do so would be an abandonment by the College of their duty of care towards students to provide as much assistance as possible during this period. We, the undersigned, are in full support of the academic staff and their reasons for taking strike action. That same support, however, cannot be extended to the College Executive itself, whose decision to close all facilities to students during this crucial period is both unnecessary and irresponsible. We therefore call upon the College Executive to reverse its decision to close the college on Thursday 17th March and guarantee that no further closures will be announced should strike action continue beyond this date. To close the campus and facilities as such an important time of the academic year is irresponsible and runs counter to the stated aims and goals of the College itself.178 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Gregor Mackay

Save Derby's Darley Park RiversideThe area of Darley fields has already lost considerable habitat with the cutting down of dozens of trees, many of which were not on original plans for flood defences. Now the other side of the river will lose habitat diversity as the banks are cleared. Kingfishers have been noted there. The environmental impact will be considerable. Also spring is well on its way and many nesting birds and small mammals will be destroyed. STOP THIS SENSELESS CLEARENCE1,031 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by angela russell

Keep Our Family Toilet Facilities in Eastbourne Arndale CentreAs part of the multimillion pound redevelopment project of the Eastboure Arndale Shopping Centre the decision has been made to remove the only family toilet facility in the centre. This means that any parent/guardian/carer out shopping alone with a baby or small child/children are unable to use a toilet that will accommodate a buggy or pushchair. As a new mum, on discovery of this development I have made enquiries with the Arndale whose response has been that the current family toilet will be replaced with a further specialist disabled toilet facility and will require a special RADAR key to access. There are no current plans to replace this lost facility but they are "currently exploring ways in which we can extend our current toilet provision in the future. With the development we are unable to comment on detailed plans but there will be toilets provided by the cinema and restaurants in the extension. We plan to make one of the cubicles in the ladies toilets more accessible to larger pushchairs and are exploring these options at the moment." There are a few issues with this statement: parents shouldn't have to use the facilities of a shop/restaurant etc when they are in the centre (which charges to park), there is no mention of plans to make a family sized cubicle in the men's toilet (do men not shop with their children without a female?), can single parents not shop in the Arndale until 2018 when the development works are due to complete?599 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Louise Tiernan

Abolish the High Speed Two (HS2) Train Infrastructure ProjectIf all the blighted people along the route of HS2 were to be compensated at all, the already huge budget would double. For miles around the many construction zones which will last well over a decade in each area along the line, people will suffer various illnesses due to constant 24/7 noise, vibration, air pollution, electromagnetic vibration, vermin, subsidence, flooding, traffic gridlock, and so on. If they wish to move, because of the blight, they cannot. The HS2 doesn't integrate into the present transport network either. And highspeed trains only run in straight lines, while all over England they will have to slow down around so many existing urban and rural curves. Lastly, it will never make the investment back. It will only put Britain into more debt.1,052 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Primavera Boman

Improve hospital food country-wideMost patients are in hospital due to lifestyle, so it is essential that provision of tasty basic real food, as recommended world-wide, is available at each meal to ensure quick recovery and release of patients with improved health guidance. After operations and treatments it is essential that the digestive tract work correctly, and this is best maintained by correct eating, rather than laxatives. Plenty of salads, vegetables, and vegetable soups with fruit and smoothies should be always available and encouraged. Pastries and cakes should not be available. Denatured white flour, sugar and salt should be replaced by oats, treacle and dried fruits etc.75 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Mike Maybury
