• Save London's Curzon Soho cinema!
Curzon Soho is one of London's flagship arthouse cinemas. Recent announcements revealed that it may be knocked down to make way for the Crossrail 2 development. The West End Extra newspaper originally broke the story about a possible demolition and it was taken up by the Daily Telegraph. The Guardian and many other publications have also picked up the story. On 17 April 2016, The Observer published an excellent and detailed article outlining why the battle to save Curzon Soho matters. Read it here http://gu.com/p/4ta6b/stw - West End Extra article: http://bit.ly/1zOGIfQ - Daily Telegraph article: http://bit.ly/1Bgvjrw - The Guardian: http://bit.ly/1PrZK4W In the recent past, Curzon Soho has been named the best cinema in London by readers of the listings magazine 'Time Out'. However, this unique, lovely and important cinema is under threat as it has been named a "surface area of interest" by those organising the £25 billion Crossrail 2 project. Losing Curzon Soho would be yet another nail in the coffin for the arts in London for the sake of the commercial and financial gain of the minority. Any proposal to demolish this wonderful cinema would be yet another example of the rampant 'beigification' of London. Londoners should unite and reject any proposals to destroy our cultural heritage. Those of us who want to save Curzon Soho from such a destructive and shameful fate need to fight for its wellbeing right now. A petition signed by 1000s of people whilst the open consultation process is ongoing may just make developers think twice about demolishing our arthouse cinema. We need the power of signatures to help us convince developers that the cinema is worth keeping and important to many people.

  • Introduce checks on owners of care homes
Three Cornish care homes for adults with learning disabilities have been forced to close because of the behaviour of the company director. Most recently, one home closed six days before Christmas with residents who had lived together as a community for some time being spread across other homes, some of them many miles away from families. The 24 staff, some of them single parents on low wages, were left unpaid. The same can happen in any part of England because of the lack of control over ownership. Anyone can buy a residential care home, whatever their background. Please sign this petition to prevent this situation from affecting more vulnerable people and their carers.

  • Remove Katie Hopkins from all Social Media
In the last week Katie Hopkins has on Social Media posted some of the most offensive material relating to the George Square Accident & the Ebola Case in Scotland. She seems to think that this is acceptable social comment rather than offensive racist trolling. Anyone who has any decency would be disgusted with her comments & anyone not in a 'position of power' protected by the establishment would be prosecuted for inciting hatred in the way she does.

  • A call for a review of the SNP Government's oil revenue estimates.
Prior to and since the referendum on Scottish independence there have been repeated allegations that the SNP Scottish Government deliberately and recklessly overestimated the oil revenues an independent Scottish state would collect whilst simultaneity playing down the importance of these monies to public finances. These allegations have become so persistent, wide-ranging and detailed that they are now undermining the credibility of the SNP Scottish Government. It is in the interest of both sides of this debate that the Scottish Government (Mr John Swinney) commissions a fully independent review of the basis for the oil revenue estimates it used to support its case for Scottish independence and publish considered analysis of how a independent Scottish state could have managed any oil revenue shortfall .

  • Corporation Tax Increase
Large profitable companies get away with paying less than ordinary people, in parliament you will hear the politicians arguing about the top rate 50 p for personal tax. Evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CKCvf8E7V1g USA Principles Applie to the UK MPs hardly ever talk about corporation tax mostly because of vested interests in large companies, and old beliefs in capitalist market being able to take care of everything. The figures below tell you the facts vote now: Personal Income Tax Tax rate Taxable income above your Personal Allowance Basic rate 20% £0 to £31,865 Most people start paying basic rate tax on income over £10,000 Higher rate 40% £31,866 to £150,000 Most people start paying higher rate tax on income over £41,865 Additional rate 45% Over £150,000 Vs Corporation Tax 21% April 2014 The government would be able to spend the 50% tax money on public services such as the NHS, Schools, and Legal Aid, Police, Fire Brigade and other public sectors !

  • Stop Differential Pay For Patient Care
Imagine agreeing to perform 1000 operations for a fixed price per procedure. Imagine you do 1200 instead. The government want to pay less for the 200 extra above the 1000 agreed. If that were to continue, it would become unsustainable meaning some patients who need care would need to travel great distances, or worse still, not get it at all. It creates a financial incentive to reduce or curtail the amount of care a hospital provides - and that can't be good for local patients. While this is important, there is a darker outcome. The unmet care need this creates would lower the barriers to entering the market for independent 'for-profit' care providers. And if a profit is being made, there are patients not receiving treatment. We must not allow this to happen as it will fragment the care provided by the NHS and reduce the financial efficiency of delivering care in the UK.

  • (Tax Avoidance) Diverted Profit Taxation
The UK public purse loses tax that can be used to fund much needed public services 25% is too low for the new tax rules. Organisations that have little or no investment in the UK and earn large sums for example: Google made £3.3 billion they paid tax of £20.4 million small compared to if they were taxed 50 % through the new scheme: The public purse would have gained £1.65 billion that could have went to the NHS, Schools, Fire Services, Legal Aid. The consultation closes on the 4th February 2015. Evidence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4d5FZU64Bnw&x-yt-ts=1422503916&x-yt-cl=85027636

  • Stop Labour's Poor Tax
On Thursday 11th December, Brighton and Hove Labour Party proposed an amendment to the Council Tax Reduction scheme. The amendment was passed with the support of all Labour and most of the Conservative councillors. As a result 16,000 of the City’s poorest households will have their Council Tax increased by a massive 76%! In a recent Council consultation, the majority of respondents clearly rejected all proposals to cut this help for people on the lowest incomes. We, the undersigned, condemn this move to single out the poorest residents and ask Labour and Conservative Councillors to overturn this decision immediately.

  • Make Child Maintenance Support fairer
I have had to support my son, who is now 17, for the last 7 years, and I have received minimal support from my ex-husband who is the director of his own business. I have received £5 a week only for the last year, following much debate with the CMS. Before that, I was receiving nothing! Following our divorce, I was forced to sell the marital home, and move into rented accommodation - and renting is not cheap to say the least. On top of this, I have to feed and clothe him, not forgetting all the other expenses that come with bringing up a teenager. We have only managed to have one family holiday since my ex-husband left and I have incurred a considerable amount of debt. I also work full-time to try and provide a roof over our heads. As my ex-husband is a director of a limited company, the CMS cannot prove the income he is drawing - he says that he earns only £250. However, his business is expanding, he has taken on a number of employees, goes on regular holidays, lives in an affluent area - and this is only half of it. He also has gone on to have two other children with his new partner. I am certain that he earns far more than this, but there is nothing in place to prove otherwise. I think this agency, set up to ensure parents are treated equally when it comes to providing financial support to their children, is completely flawed and fails to look after parents whose former partners have their own businesses or are self-employed - and this needs to be addressed. I know there must be other parents in the same situation as me, so please show your support and sign this petition - I want this discussed in parliament.
