• Stop the Tudor Grange Redditch Business case
Tudor Grange Academy Redditch has submitted a business case to pursue their change in age range in order to become a secondary school. This is despite a consultation process which indicated great opposition from parents and educationalists. This will cause chaos and disruption to the other schools in Redditch. Re-organisation will cost the taxpayers millions. Our three tier system is working well, we do not need expensive and unnecessary change.

  • A no badger cull policy on Dover District council land
A badger cull is not humane, or effective means of tb control. It is also costly at £4121 per badger. The vaccination is only £662 per badger. Shooting badgers is not the logical way forward in fighting tb. The badger cull is not culling due to its tb threat, it is being undertaken to prove its effectiveness and humane theory's. Both have proven huge failures. Even though Kent is a low risk area, having a no cull policy in place will ensure more humane methods such as vaccination are put forward, in the event of a role out in the country.

  • No Arc21- No incinerator in Newtownabbey.
If this were to go ahead with this proposal it would have massive repercussions on not only a social but a health scale for the people living in the residential areas around the Hightown and Mallusk areas. This will also have massive finacial implications on the tax payer who will be footing the 230 million bill for this project. Bombardier have put forward a tender for this waste which they would recycle into sustainable energy to power Shorts/Bombardier. This has no cost to the tax payer and will go along way towards saving jobs at Bobardier/Shorts who are a major employer here in Northern Ireland.

  • Campaign to Strengthen the Hunting Act
The Hunting Act is in urgent need of strengthening, to enable the authorities to clamp down on illegal hunting. At present, hunts can escape prosecution – and nearly always do - by cynically claiming their pursuit and killing of a hunted animal was “unintentional”. This nonsense is enabling hunts to carry on as if there were no ban at all. Over 80% of the British public support the ban, but hunters appear to believe they are above the law. 50,000 hunters signed a Declaration before the ban came into force stating they would defy it, and continue to hunt as before, thus displaying their total contempt for democracy. REIN IN THE HUNTERS – STRENGTHEN THE HUNTING ACT

  • Forest Privatisation by the back door
At Fineshade Woods in Northamptonshire, Forest Holidays are planning to erect 70 deluxe timber lodges with ancillary accommodation, plus a new road, within the woods against the wishes of all the local Parish Councils and with over 200 objections raised. Authoritative organisations such as the Wildlife Trust the Council’s advisors, RSPB, badger groups, bat groups, butterfly organisations and ecologists of many hues have all objected but their views appear to be being ignored by the local planning authority. Requests for at least an Environmental Impact Assessment have been rejected out of hand with statements that there will be no significant environmental damage when 40+ hectares of semi ancient woodland on a Local Wildlife Site that is subject of an application to be considered as a potential SSSI are subject to development. At nine other Forests in the UK and with at least two further planning applications in the pipeline as well planning applications for additional chalets in existing projects, Forest Holidays appear to be being given Carte Blanche to take possession of public Forests and convert them into a private business; they are supported by Lloyds Development Capital and the Forestry Commission. In Feb 2011 the “save our forests” campaign was considered to be over when the Government said the forests would not be privatised. The Forestry Commission and Directors of Forest Holidays and their financial backers appear to have reversed this policy by taking possession of public forests on 125 year leases and using that natural resource for their personal gain. This must be against the stated policy of the current Government and against the wishes of the 700,000 people who voted supporting the original save our Forest campaign.

  • Moratorium on A&E closures and hospital reorganisations
    - Local people, across the country, are demonstrating that they are opposed to reorganisation plans - In many place there was totally inadequate consultation about plans for A&E closures and wider hospital reorganisations - Urgent Care Centres are an untried alternative to local A&Es - A&E services are under severe strain at present - further reducing these as we come into winter means lives will be put at risk - Reorganisations are driving an increasing privatisation of our NHS together with the Health and Social Care Act and growing threats from TTIP The petition is the initiative of Save Our Hospitals: Hammersmith and Charing Cross.

  • Protect Domestic Violence Survivors' Right to Housing
Recently, one local authority, Barnet Council, has consulted on requiring survivors of domestic violence to register as homeless before rehousing them. This will have the effect of removing their priority status on the housing waiting list, dropping from Band 1 down to Band 2 or 3. If these proposals are implemented, they will set a dangerous precedent for our society as well as the way we treat those who have survived domestic violence - who are often forced to choose between their safety and their own home. We should be looking to change the narrative about domestic violence - and that means recognising and taking steps to protect survivors' right to housing.

  • STOP ABUSED CHILDREN BEING FAILED BY A BROKEN CHILD PROTECTION SYSTEM
Children’s social and mental health services are failing to protect vulnerable children in the UK. It’s not just Rotherham though. The NSPCC estimates that for every child on a child protection plan, there are another eight who are being abused or neglected. 500 Children’s Centres have closed since 2010 and 73% of Social Workers say they can’t do their jobs properly. Two thirds of local authorities have cut their budgets for child and adolescent mental health and 88% of Social Workers say that budget cuts have left children at increased risk of abuse. Huge numbers of unfilled social worker posts (3800 in England alone) are leading to untold misery for tens of thousands of children. This is leaving children at risk and the workers who have to try and protect them, demoralised and struggling to cope. “Enough is Enough”, a recent report from the Centre for Social Justice, describes the current child protection and mental health system as “abhorrent” and that suffering children face “grotesque injustice.” Now an Independent Children’s Task Force, made up of child protection experts, has been formed by Kids Company’s SEE THE CHILD. CHANGE THE SYSTEM campaign. The task force will completely redesign child and adolescent social care and mental health services. We hope this petition will persuade all the political parties to support the Task Force's new delivery model - and to commit to piloting it in two Local Authorities so it can be put to the test. It’s true that children can’t vote and vulnerable children are completely invisible. It shouldn't be like this and with your help we need to stand up for them and show politicians that we care. No child or young person should be left to suffer alone. This is the nation’s best hope of ensuring that all abused children can get the help they need, when they need it. Please sign and share this petition now. Find out more at: www.seethechild.org Watch the film at: http://youtu.be/3rwkrp9Akps The campaign and Independent Children's Task Force are supported by the following organisations; The NSPCC, Action For Children, Barnardo’s, The Children’s Society, National Children’s Bureau, The Royal College of Nursing, The Royal College of General Practitioners, The Royal College of Psychiatrists, The Health and Care Professions Council, The Royal Society for Public Health, The British Association of Social Workers, The National Association of Head Teachers, UNISON, The National Union of Students, The National Union of Teachers and the National Association of Social Workers in Education. • Stop the CETA corporate power grab
The secret negotiations for CETA (official name: Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) between Canada and the European Union have already been concluded, without consulting any of us! - Even though Canada and the EU have been negotiating this so-called “next generation free trade and investment pact" behind closed doors since May 2009. But CETA is better understood as another corporate power grab. If signed, CETA will give multinational corporations the right to sue countries for loss of profits in secret courts of arbitration if those countries seek, for example, to pass laws to prevent fracking, to regulate prices, or to raise the minimum wage. Also (like TTIP), CETA will enable the multinationals to pressurise communities to privatise basic public services like water systems, transport and energy - and much more. As the social justice organisation the Council of Canadians points out: "The secret negotiating process, as well as the overall corporate agenda behind next generation deals are an affront to democracy on both sides of the Atlantic." If all this sounds horribly familiar, it's because CETA would have exactly the same adverse effects on our society and economy as TTIP - the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership planned between the USA and Europe (for further info on TTIP, see the 38 degrees campaign and petition to stop TTIP). Here are some examples of current cases arising from other, very similar "free trade agreements" that are already in force. Tobacco giant Philip Morris is suing Australia for billions of dollars in lost profits because the Australian government took action to reduce teenage smoking by stipulating plain packaging for cigarettes. Pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly is suing Canada for $400 million because Canada has introduced laws to keep essential medications affordable. Worst of all, those proceedings are being held in secret international courts to which only corporations have access, in accordance with "investor-state dispute settlement rules" which also apply to CETA (and to TTIIP). This basically gives greedy corporations power over our social values, our legislative procedures and our trading standards. That's why CETA must be stopped now! To quote the corporation-loving TheCityUK website: "Canadian and the EU officials have agreed a complete CETA text, to be initialled at the EU-Canada Summit in Ottawa on 25 September 2014."... (That's only weeks away!)... "The gains to be had from the EU-Canada CETA are potentially very large." ...(Yes, you can bet they are - but only for big business!)... "The agreement – all 1,500 pages of it - now needs to be translated into all EU languages and reviewed by lawyers. Once approved by the EU’s 28 member-states and Canada’s ten provinces it will then be formally signed (probably in 2015). It is expected to be ratified by the EU's 28 member states and the Canadian provinces in the course of 2016." So big business is very confident that this undemocratic deal is going to go through, to the huge benefit of its profits. But if enough of us raise our voices and raise awareness about CETA, we can still force our politicians to think again about selling us out to big business. Please sign the petition to stop CETA.

  • Save Barrington Court Gardens
They are the only community garden space available for hundreds of residents, and they are in constant use to grow herbs and vegetables. The gardens were deliberately preserved as community space in the original designs of Barrington Court, by Powell and Moya, highly respected and influential post war architects. However Camden Council, desperate to balance its books, is trying to sell off this and other public land to reduce its deficit. One of the gardens has a massive copper beach tree that will be killed by the new houses. The council has tried to deceive residents by claiming in the plans that the land is "derelict" offering "no community value", where in fact they are thriving allotments in constant use. There is precious little green space in the Gospel Oak estates as it is, and we want to prevent Camden Council stamping out what we have left for purely financial gain.

  • Consequences for Rotherham abuse report names.
The people named in the report were supposed to be protecting children and were guilty of extreme negligence. It is important for those in positions of responsibility to be really accountable. Saying sorry is not enough, saying lessons will be learned is not enough and staying in post should be out of the question. There is generally an attitude amongst senior management that it can earn large salaries and that this quite separate from the damage it might do through its own incompetence or immorality. Far too often the large salaries are unjustified.

  • Commit The Labour Party to the NHS
The public are in very real danger of losing the NHS as we have come to love it if the Conservatives retain power after May 2015. The NHS at its very best is universally popular - across supporters of the main political parties. But only Labour has the chance to end the privatisation and marketization of our health care. Were Labour to come out in support of the 5 Points in my Petition, they would enjoy cross-Party support and earn the right to rule.
