• Don't force Bevendean Primary School to become an academy
No two schools are alike. But the government doesn't seem to agree. It wants to rush through plans to force every single school in England to become an academy! The type of school that is paid for by taxpayers, but run by businesses, sponsors or trusts. Many teachers and parents are already standing against the plans, saying that they're just one more step towards privatisation! The government will ignore local views and and this privatisation could force some schools to close, as we are also seeing happen with our local Bevendean GP surgery right now! One size does not fit all, and local parents and teachers should have a say in the future of our school.

  • No Academisation at Willow Grove
When my son was excluded from a mainstream school (because they failed to fully cater for his needs) he was at rock bottom. When he started at Willow Grove the change was immediate - my smiling, intelligent boy flourished and has almost made up for what he missed. The headteacher is excellent. The governors are excellent. The family partnership service is a lifesaver. Many teachers and parents are already standing against the plans, comparing the plans to back door privatisation. Our children's education is too important to entrust to corporations who often have money at the top of their agenda. The students and teachers would be the ones to suffer. One size does not fit all, and local parents and teachers should have a say in the future of our school. Ideally I would like to see no school forced to convert, but at the very least, I would like to see my son and his friends continue to thrive in their learning environment.
