• One chance to beat Ebola!
The Ebola outbreak is worsening by the day. So far close to 4 thousand people have died in West Africa and single victims of the disease have already appeared in US, Europe and Australia. The buildup of response from politicians and international community appears to be slow and painfully inadequate. The ideas like screening travelling public at airports is NOT GOING TO WORK! There is, however, experimental drug, which offers some hope of cure - ZMapp, unfortunately all available doses have already been used and manufacturing of new doses is slow and too low to make the difference to already affected areas. Surely, now is the time to put pressure on the Manufacturer to share the science with ALL capable pharmaceutical companies all over the world to take up the production immediately in parallel with each other. There are obviously questions of patents and protection of profits ect. but even at this stage the containment of this crisis is going to cost global community, potentially billions of dollars, so the financial solution can be found. The decision of this importance can only be taken at the highest levels of power and in conjunction with American partners, since the manufacturer is an American company. Please support this call to the UK PM, to take necessary steps to make this happen!

  • Stop the 'Shape of Training'
The Shape of Training is a review of medical training being implemented by the government and its recommendations pose a serious threat to patient safety and high quality patient care by reducing the amount of time take to train hospital consultants. Evidence also suggests that the government may have influenced the review in a non-transparent manner. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-31048279 The review's key recommendations include reducing the time taken to train to become a 'consultant' by at least 2 years and changing the point at which doctors become fully registered to practice by the GMC. The major professional bodies including the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Surgeons and the British Medical Association have expressed serious concerns about these recommendations. Tom Dolphin of the BMA was involved in the review and has recently spoken out against its recommendations: " This is an egregious assault at the heart of medical standards; we cannot allow it to proceed. " The Shape of Training review in its current form is not compatible with high quality patient care and maintaining patient safety in the NHS to a high standard, and for this reason I would urge you to sign this petition.

  • government should help fund nurses and midwives NMC fees
We are facing pay freezes and poor working conditions and the NMC keep increasing our registration fees. The purpose of the NMC is to protect the public. But no-one is protecting us from the extortionate increases the NMC apply each year.

  • STOP the demolition of Earl's Court Exhibition Centre on public health grounds
Local residents and neighbourhood businesses DO NOT WANT the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham Planning and Development Control Committee to approve the Reserved Matters Application Ref 2014/03232/DET due soon, before a full independent public health impact assessment is carried out. If any demolition and reconstruction of this HUGE 77-acre West London district is to go ahead, the site and its neighbouring areas will suffer ground contamination, noise pollution (heavy demolition traffic + the accumulative impact of noise), vibration and risks to health during asbestos removal. Furthermore, air pollution in this area, already regularly breaching European air quality standards, make air quality monitoring stations for Hammersmith and Fulham residents essential.

  • Getting NHS Continuing Nursing Care actually paid out
We know there are thousands of dementia [and other disease sufferers] in need of nursing, not just personal care. If they manage to find out about the processes and arm themselves with a copy of the DST they are in with half a chance but it is only half a chance. Result = pay through the nose for care which the patient has already paid into the NHS and tax system for them to provide

  • Fibromyalgia: The condition is invisible, it's impacts are not.
There are an estimated 2.5 million people diagnosed with this condition in the UK (10 million in USA). It impacts whole families not just the patients. Young children having to be carers, relationship break downs, isolation. Suicides are on the increase. More funding is given to Rheumatoid Arthritis with fewer people suffering. The lack of understanding by the medical profession, the general public etc means we are left with little or no support.

  • Clean Our Air it’s Killing Us
Long term exposure to road pollutants can trigger hospital admissions or deaths for people with heart or lung disease. It is estimated that air pollution is responsible for 29,000 deaths per year in the UK (COMEAP 2010). To put this into context, this is 3 times the number of deaths attributable to alcohol and 16 times that caused by road traffic accidents. Air pollution is also linked to many life limiting conditions, child development and reduces life expectancy by around six months, worth £16 billion a year. Ill health has a resultant burden on our society and our NHS. Further fines and court costs, paid for by the taxpayer, will be incurred as the UK fails to meet EU air quality targets. We the undersigned are of the opinion that as a matter of urgency the government needs to sanction a range of measures to reduce air pollution and its effect on health. These include a national framework for low emission zones, infrastructure and incentives for active travel, road user charging and discouragement of biomass burning and diesel vehicles.

  • Breast Cancer Screening for the over 70's
My Mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last Month, and thankfully it seems to have been caught on time. She had not had a check up for 8 years, as the NHS does not ask people to attend on a regular basis after the age of 70. This is ludicrous as it means that once you are 70, if you get breast cancer, you are less likely to have it detected and therefore less likely to be cured.

  • Let's talk about suicide!
In 2012, 4590 men and 1391 women committed suicide in the United Kingdom. It is estimated that globally, every 40 seconds someone takes their own life. I think we need to start a culture of open and honest discussion about suicide and it's impact. I truly believe if young people were spoken to honestly about mental health before they become adults then we have a chance of forming a mentally healthy society. Or at least one that has understanding of mental illness. As a 14 year old, if you need advice on how to prevent creating a new life, you can access that information at school, similarly about drugs and alcohol. But where do young people go when they feel like they can't take anymore? Who do they turn to in those times? We need to talk to young people BEFORE the point, suicide is the single biggest killer in young men in the UK. Let's have the discussion before it's too late. By having this discussion during school time, we can begin to normalize it and break the taboo. Let's start a culture where we encourage others to reach out for help, one that we all promise to keep an eye on friends we are worried about. Thank you

  • Stop Next using really thin models
I was horrified when looking at the Next website so see how very thin some of the models are. Girls today are bombarded with images of unattainable ideals, leading them to all sorts of issues with body image and self confidence. These are not the role models I want for my children. By using these models, Next is condoning this as an aspirational way to be. As a society, we have girls struggling with self image and then companies hold this up as both normal and desirable - most girls would have serious medical problems if they were this size. Anorexia is an illness. Sufferers need help, not the reinforcement that this gives. I am certainly not saying that fashion should be forced to use large models. Slim is healthy. Emaciated is not. Please sign, and through tackling a large high street name, show the fashion idustry that this is not what we, as consumers, want.
