• Voluntary Ban on Garden Centre Sale of Metaldehyde Slug Pellets.
In December 2018, Michael Gove, as Secretary of State for DEFRA, the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs banned the sale of metaldehyde slug pellets after 30 June 2019. After this date they should have vanished from garden centre shelves. Wildlife campaigners, who recognise the harm done to hedgehogs by slug pellets, were overjoyed. Philip Tavener of Chiltern Farm Chemicals, manufacturer of metaldehyde slug pellets, took the legal action to bring Mr Gove’s decision before the High Court. The High court has ruled on a technicality, that Mr Gove's actions were unlawful, and has overturned DEFRA's decision. This means that the sale of metaldehyde slug pellets is once again legal and wildlife, in particular the hedgehog population, is once again at risk. There is no need for these pellets to be used in gardens. There are safer, ferric phosphate pellets and biological controls in the form of nematode worms watered into the soil.

  • Pay unmarried Widows bereavement benefits.
As a Widowed parent I know first hand how devastating it is to find yourself in this life. Not every person has life insurance, a decent pension, savings or has an estate to leave their loved ones. To struggle every month while dealing with grief and the grief of your child. Always worrying if all the bills will be covered, constantly having to go without, missing meals to make sure your children eat, always having to say no when your child asks for treats. Having to ask for food vouchers so you can go to a food bank to keep the cupboards stocked or having to ask family for help even though your still working as much as you can. We are purposely left to struggle in the worst possible moments of life because we were not married to our partners at the time of their death. The government do not even recognise us as widows or our children as bereaved due to being unmarried. It has been acknowledged that this is wrong and has to change and there are charities already campaigning but still nothing has been done and families like mine are suffering because of it. This is wrong and it has to be changed now.

  • lets get pedestrian crossings in ashbourne
due to increased traffic in ashbourne in general we are calling on derbyshire county council to install pedestrian crossings at these 2 points as we believe there is a serious safety concern. Yesterday we had fatal accident at the 1st place. Traffic is getting very heavy in ashbourne and it was only a matter of time before something happened. As for second location there have already been issues involving trucks parking inappropriately which makes a dangerous crossing even worse.

  • Save Group B Strep Babies
My eldest daughter ( now 10), was born with this. She was very poorly and we were told that she may not survive. She was in the Neonatal unit for a week in Birmingham Women's Hospital. We later found out she also had pneumonia and pneumothorax. She was severely unwell. Most babies born with this who survive are deaf and have learning difficulties. Abby was a lucky one. The only way she has been affected is with a weakened immune system. THE SCARY THING IS WOMEN DO NOT KNOW THEY CARRY THIS DEADLY BACTERIA UNTIL THEIR BABIES ARE BORN AND ALL TOO OFTEN IT IS TOO LATE

  • Save Strone Farm
This landmark farm bears the name of the local housing estate the Strone and the farm has a wonderful history and has had many owners from Gabriel Dunlop to R Gardiner and the Bowes stretching almost 200 or more years back into history where adjacent was the Auchmountain Glen a Victorian garden which is now being restored. This is our heritage and the last few years have seen Greenock communities gentrified including schools and historic buildings. This is on my doorstep and I worked alongside Johnstone ( Last Farm Owner ) when I started the campaign to save the Auchmountain Glen and if I had my dream fullfilled The auchmountain Glen project could maybe have purchased this farm if it where not for red tape.

  • Save St Stanislaus Dulverton and its Youth Centre
St Stanislaus RC Church, Dulverton and its adjoining 'Residential Centre', a Hostel, share the same site, with narrow access and restricted parking. One property is not usable without the other. The Hostel needs some expenditure on the exterior for which the Diocese is unwilling to pay. According to professional estimates obtained by the Parish, the cost is no more than £50K, which, given the chance, the Parish and Diocese could source between them. Most groups staying at the Centre are from schools, colleges, universities and youth organisations who come for canoeing and kayaking on the rivers Exe and Barle, rowing on Wimbleball Lake or cycling and hiking on Exmoor. Many groups had already expressed an interest in booking for 2020 before closure was suddenly announced by the Diocese in June 2019. The Hostel is in a prime location in the National Park and conveniently situated in a town with shops and services. Loss of the Hostel will bring further significant loss to local businesses, to young people and to community life in Dulverton and the surrounding area which have already been hard hit by other recent closures. Loss of the Hostel will also inevitably mean closure of the adjoining Church of St Stanislaus which is a spiritual beacon not only for local parishioners, but also for town people of all faiths or none, who drop in for moments of quiet contemplation, for tourists, family and friends from across the world visiting Exmoor. Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, former President of France, used to worship there when staying with friends locally. It is a little gem of a church with features designed by Sir Albert Richardson and adorned with glorious stained glass and interesting statues including St George and the Dragon by Septimus Waugh and a fine crucifix by Eric Gill. See more about the Residential Centre at http://www.exmoorhostel.co.uk/

  • Introduce Rent Controls in London
Cities across Europe - Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam already have systems of rent control. Westminster needs to step up and give the Mayor of London rent control powers, and the Mayor of London needs to make sure that these are implemented as soon as possible - so we can afford to live in London.

  • Building on the Green Belt
This field is a sanctuary for a diversity of many small animals, moles, hedgehogs, birds and bees, but is also one of the top 10 sites in the County for its listed varieties of dung beetles. If the machines come on the field to bore the holes through the old landfill base of the field they may also release and spread methane and toxins of many sorts into the air and the old branch of the river Thames which runs along it. Because of the cost of clearing the landfill, any houses built here would be very expensive, not the affordable houses we need. Maintaining an easily accessible green belt is essential for people's mental health. #saveRedbridgeMeadow

  • Cancel VELO Birmingham and West Midlands on 21 June 2020 and do something better
A big bike ride is a lovely idea but not when it involves a large corporation telling thousands of people that they have to be restricted in their movements for the majority of the day and that there is nothing they can do about it. Velo is proposed for height of the Summer on 28 June 2020, closing 100 miles of roads across the West Midlands for the majority of daylight hours (04.45am - 19.00pm, and with other restrictions from midnight the day before). CSM Sport and Entertainment is a private global company which will charge 19000 Riders between £70 - £120 to take part. Some riders may raise their own sponsorship for charity which is of course, admirable, but it could be argued that cyclists would be better taking part in the many events across the UK where all money raised, including entry fees, goes to charity and doesn’t close roads all day / impose restrictions on others. Sadly this also means that all charity events along the way have to be cancelled at the behest of this corporate giant. What happened last year and why you should be concerned: • Many residents were trapped in their own homes as many closed roads were their only exit and entry points, with no diversion route / alternative available. Some people were trapped in their homes for over 13 hours. Public transport was also suspended for most of the day. • Home help and visiting carers were prevented from delivering food, hydration and medication as part of routine care plans; a vet was refused access to a premises because of road closures, leading to the death of two horses. Many people were prevented from travel to work and some were stranded at Birmingham International Airport and train station and couldn't return home for hours. • Previous proposals for this event have prompted grave concern from local ambulance services and previous events / event routes have been cancelled. • As per previous Velo mass road closures, levels of frustration have resulted in sabotage, with nails and razor blades being put on roads, and people trying to break through barriers, which is a risk to public safety and potentially causes a waste of police time. • In addition to stress anxiety and inconvenience, the Velo event can also have a negative effect on communities, many of which have to shelve their own plans for community events and suspend the operation of small businesses, particularly on the new proposed mid-summer date. Your rights compromised: It is highly unlikely that this event is compliant with the Equality Act 2010 in relation to disability and the denying of physical access for some in and out of their homes and to access services on the day. Signs prior to the event, blocked pavements in some areas for the 2019 event (pictured). Last year's event was not only an unwelcome intrusion to a large amount of people, forced to put up with it, but has been seen by many trapped for the day as an infringement of civil liberties and a danger to health and safety. No one asked communities what they want: Many of you will no doubt have read about this via third-party sources as opposed to being notified or consulted with directly. There has been no consultation with those living along the route, with Velo instead relying on a third party leaflet drop (which in the past missed out many people, who weren't aware of road closures when a Velo event was attempted previously) which tells people that the road will be closed and residents vehicles may be towed away from outside their homes - which is a little harsh for anyone who doesn’t have a driveway. It doesn’t have to be like this: Much of this could be avoided by CSM / Velo working out a route which doesn't trap people in their own homes / only routing past homes where residents have an alternative access road to get in and out as they wish (other than on foot). The benefits and the real cost: The benefits of Velo have mainly been promoted along economic lines, yes there may have been a spike in hotel bookings in Birmingham and Coventry City Centre, but this seems to be totally at the expense of the wellbeing of many people along the route. Velo and your Council’s accountability: Despite being contacted, Velo is remaining silent at the time of writing as per the exact route for 2020, and have stated that they will know in around 5 weeks. Last year despite a request they also failed to make available their evacuation plan for communities that were locked-down for the day. The aim of this petition and who it will be sent to: This petition will be presented to the leaders of Birmingham, Solihull, Warwickshire and Coventry Councils and Velo itself, to request that the event is cancelled in its current form, as it has been previously in the North, South and Worcester. This petition will also outline the risks and issues associated with this event, should the event be given permission, so that in the event of a serious incident attributed to the road closures, the Councils' involved and CSM / Velo cannot use the excuse that they were unaware of the potential consequences as a defence, should any legal challenges be issued. Please note: The original petition deadline was to sign before 3 February 2020, so that this could be submitted in good time, prior to the event, this has been done but please continue to sign in order to keep the pressure on, and it will be sent again when Velo send notifications out to send a clear message to the authorities that they are not being representative of communities in backing this. It will help if as well as signing the petition, you include additional information when possible, so please use the comments box to record your experiences particularly / effects on health and safety / poor treatment that you have received at the hands of CSM and the Velo event team. And of course, share as widely as you can!

  • Save our South Kensington Post Office
It is an intensely used Post Office in a unique location, less than 150 meters from South Kensington underground and bus station, and in a high-density residential area. This Post Office serves an unusual high number of residents, businesses, tourists, employees working nearby and institutions that are located next to the branch. If this Post Office were to close it would open up a huge hole in the network of post offices in the south east of the borough, which has already suffered from closures in the past. South Kensington Post Office is a vital social and community use which is essential for the population of South Kensington and south-east Chelsea. The set up and location of the proposed alternative branches are not fit for purpose. We need to keep this post office because it has a proper set up, specifically its closeness to a main transportation hub for easy access, step free access, wide internal layout for strollers and wheelchairs, sufficient counters to manage the customer flow and demand as well as broad range of services.
