• The Government must provide emergency funding to foodbanks
It is well reported that foodbank use in the UK has seen an unprecedented rise in use. They rely solely on public donations to feed people. Because it is government policy that has caused this rise, they must intervene now. Foodbanks are running out daily and face the awful task of turning people away. Health and wellbeing is at severe risk. These charities are doing the government's work free of charge. This must change.

  • No. 17 bus service
The no. 17 bus is more than just a bus from A to B. It is a lifeline for many elderly people who live in the area, they use this bus service for companionship. When this bus is withdrawn many of these people will be left housebound; not able to walk to the local shops and not able to afford a taxi. St Marys hospital is expanding with more appointments being held there, with the new service cutting out a large portion of the route many people will be unable to get to the hospital, again too far for people to walk and taxis being far too expensive for OAPs to afford. It is not only the elderly this will affect, it will also affect the kids getting to school, students attending Portsmouth College, people getting to work. First Hroup are axing this service as too many old people enjoy this service.

  • Ban neonicotinoids in Forestry
Forestry is practiced in remote otherwise unpolluted places . These powerful biocides ( alpha cypermethrin and acetamiprid) cause damage to ecosystems, enter water courses including private drinking water supplies. The industry is poorly regulated and breaches of existing (inadequate) guidelines are frequent. Guidelines are based on flawed , incomplete and outdated data. Complacency is endemic throughout the industry. I have worked in the Forestry industry for 35 years running one of the few ( or only) female led contracting businesses in Forestry in the UK. Two younger members of my family and many good friends also work in Forestry. Foreign studies link both commonly used chemicals with health problems among Forestry and nursery workers . An FOI request has not so far turned up any short , medium or long term studies in the uk . So far no studies exist into whether these chemicals get into water supplies. But we know they do. We got samples analysed pre and post a very small scale planting and have proved the presence of 2 banned substances in a private supply and acetamiprid in a stream nearby ( it took me months to get a buffer zone agreed upon in an attempt to protect my supply-guidelines were broken. So what to do . 1) ban the use of these biocides 2) invest heavily in the continued development of alternatives ie natural waxes and physical barriers 3) practice better more sustainable forestry ( smaller clearfells , more species diversity etc) Sweden is rapidly phasing out the use of insecticides due to environmental and human health concerns . The rest of Scandinavia and the Baltic countries are following. The implications of poisoning many of the bottom rung of the food chain should be clear to see but again no environmental follow up studies are done.

  • Save our rare Bats barn.
The Grey long eared, Lesser and Greater Horseshoe bats are nationally scarce species that need protecting. if anything, the barn should be preserved for what could be a site of importance. There are only an estimated 1000 Grey long eared left in Britain, and studies suggest numbers are still falling. if this development is granted planning permission, the whole surrounding area will be affected. currently there is a healthy food source directly next to the barn, which would be removed to make way for the new building. and a very active Badger sett would have to be relocated. these are the primary concerns.

  • Renovate Rock Hall
The hall stands derelict and if not preserved for future generations will be too damaged to save. The park is a lovely place to visit but requires better facilities to make the experience a more interesting one and generate income to improve it. The council are being evasive, it's been up for lease and had many applicants willing to renovate at their own cost for use as a tea room, visitor centre and office use however, all have been refused without explaination. The council have done this with other buildings most recent of which ended up demolished and is now a KFC. Demand transparency and that the council keep this beautiful, historic, grade protected building.

  • RSPB : please support the bird life in Hellifield, North Yorkshire
The Flashes are a very unusual phenomenon. The water comes & goes. In winter there are several lakes full of water & in summer they can almost dry up. Usually the main Flash always has water. The biodiversity of the area attracts all kinds of bird & wildlife. Many of them are endangered & on red or orange lists which are promoted as in need of protection & conservation. Some of them breed on the Flashes, some of them overwinter as part of migration. The joy of this area is that it is available to all & is used by many bird watchers & photographers as well as walkers. Someone who can't walk can sit in a car at one side & watch bird activity. A novice bird watcher, like myself, can quickly pick up knowledge & interest by watching each day as different birds come & go. One day a flock of lapwings, another day there might be oyster catchers, sandpipers, herons, god-wits, shelducks...the list goes on. There is other precious wildlife in the area too, notably the great crested newt, a protected species, but this petition is concentrating on the birds & the role of the RSPB in supporting the plans for destruction. Why spoil an area which has functioned beautifully for generations, which provides rare & unusual habitat & supports so many kinds of birds? There is no need for 300 wooden chalets & a hotel & car parks in this area. There are plenty of nicer places to stay already. Is it really worth it at the expense of bird life? Craven District Council reference is Planning Application 42/2016/17496 Hellifield Flashes, if you want to read more.

  • Hyde Library
Hyde has lost many of its iconic public buildings recently and in the past. As a matter of local heritage, identity and community pride it is essential that some key buildings are saved, Hyde library most definitely falls into this category.

  • Stop First Bus from carrying out devastating cuts to timetables in South Worcestershire
Many people rely on these services to enable them to carry out every day tasks such as going to work, doing the shopping, attending medical appointments and meeting with friends & family. South Worcestershire is a largely rural area where public transport is limited and isolation a real risk. In addition to this an over reliance on car use is having a detrimental impact on air quality and health and well-being. These drastic cuts would be devastating.

  • SAVE THE BLANTYRE SKATEPARK
Blantyre Skatepark Community is looking to raise awareness for the work needed to maintain our public Skatepark in Blantyre. Due to lack of funds from South Lanarkshire Council within our skatepark, we are not seeing the necessary repairs being completed by our local authority. Our Skatepark is used by many of all ages from around Lanarkshire and Glasgow. Skateboarders, Bmx, Scootering and Roller Blading are all accommodated for at The Blantyre Skatepark. We hope we can improve the standards of Skatepark by petitioning South Lanarkshire Council and also apply to charities for help. The Blantyre skatepark provide a physical activity for kids not interested in traditional team sports. Community skateparks provide a safe and challenging place for skaters of all levels to develop as athletes. ... Public skateparks provide healthy activity for kids and helps eliminate boredom.

  • Housing Policy Needs Urgent Change
Increased supply and quality comes from competition and incentives, not from over regulation or divisive taxation policies. There's a hole in the bucket and it's not being refilled quickly enough. Private landlords are selling up in droves, thus reducing the pool of better quality homes available to rent. Private investment into much needed rental housing is being strangled, and this MUST STOP! National and Local Government policies are discouraging private investment into rental accommodation, especially in recent years. This is already negatively impacting housing development and the wider economy. If the supply of private rental accommodation continues to contract, demand will cause rents to increase and ordinary people will find it even harder to find flexible and affordable housing. Taxing suppliers, whether directly or by stealth, is always passed on to consumers. In this case, that means upward pressure on rents. There have been several forms of stealth taxes and indirect taxation applied to private housing providers. These include; the taxation of finance costs, increased Stamp Duty Land Tax, banning tenant fees and Selective Licencing. Government and Local Councils need to stop milking private housing providers like cash cows and reverse all such policies before further suffering is caused. Badly informed campaigning could also undo all the good things the Housing Act 1988 achieved. We urge Government to be mindful of this.
