• Don't force John Stainer Community Primary School to become an academy
No two schools are alike. But the government doesn’t seem to agree. It wants to rush through plans to force every single school in England to become an academy – the type of school paid for by taxpayers, but run by businesses, sponsors or trusts. Many teachers and parents are already standing against the plans, saying that they’re ‘a step towards privatisation’, ignore local views, and could force some schools to close. One size does not fit all, and local parents and teachers should have a say in the future of our school. ------ If this isn't your local school, click here to sign your local petition, or start one if no-one else has yet: https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/start-a-campaign-for-your-school

  • Ban Dangerous Pesticides in Medway
The use of glyphosates has already been banned or restricted in 8 countries. It is not acceptable that ourselves, our children and the animals we share our community with are being routinely exposed to these chemicals whether we like it or not. This is a matter of great importance for those of us who care about each other's health and the health of our children, our cats, our dogs and all the flora and fauna of this city, of course including our beloved bees. • Establish an inquiry into racism in the Conservative party
There should be no place for the kind of racist slurs and innuendos that have characterised Conservative campaigning recently. All forms of racism, including anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, need to be rooted out from across the political spectrum.

  • Buffer Zones for gas drilling sites in York and North Yorkshire
Gas extraction firms plan to drill several shale gas wells in North Yorkshire in the next five years, after being handed the rights to explore using the controversial hydraulic fracturing process across the county by the national government. The Joint Waste and Mineral Plan for North Yorkshire is currently being negotiated by City of York Council, North Yorkshire County Council and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park authority. This plan, when enacted, will outline how each of these areas deal with a host of topics including recycling provision, waste management, as well as gas and mineral extraction. Due to national laws and regulation City of York Council, North Yorkshire County Council and North Yorkshire Moors National Park are not allowed to exclude gas drilling completely within their territories, but the the local authorities have influence to set conditions to protect residents and the outstanding countryside of North Yorkshire from the impact of the gas industry.

  • Ban Dangerous Pesticides in Frensham, Farnham and all surrounding villages
It seems madness to me that the council are deliberately poisoning our natural world: our life support system. Especially now, in the midst of a global environmental crisis. Waverley Borough Council need to be responding to this and acting in a responsible manner . We need nature, we are part of nature. Our well being and health is totally interdependent with the natural world. There is overwhelming evidence of the toxic legacy from glyphosate use. The case of groundsman, Dewayne Johnson v. Monsanto Bayer in the U.S.A. has been a landmark in finally acknowledging the devastating health effects of exposure to pesticide/herbicides. It is absolutely not acceptable that we are being routinely exposed to these chemicals in our public spaces - children’s play parks, sports fields, popular picnic spots, residential streets without our consent or advance notification. The bioaccumulate effect is real and devastating for wildlife- our whole ecosystem is dependent on healthy biodiversity. The sounds of our local countryside even here in leafy Surrey are changing with reduced birdsong, bees, moths and so much of our native wildlife. I’ve been alarmed at the silence from the loss of bees on Frensham Common- a place I’ve walked all my life. In past years, as the heather comes into full flower , the air is normally full of the sound of humming bees gathering stores for winter. This summer there has been an eerie silence and extraordinary stillness. I have never known such a dramatic change. This is such a serious issue. The council could choose a different approach. Please make your voice heard and tell them you want them to stop using pesticides in their green spaces grounds management. Also, we can all chose to see nature in all her wild beauty and not insist that Waverley Borough Council maintain manicured verges, parks and public spaces. Please encourage Waverley to actively encourage wildflower verges, scruffy living hedges and to set aside wildlife areas in our public parks and gardens. They are your council- tell them what sort of place you want you and your families to live in. Frensham Parish Council have now banned the use of pesticides on their land (2018) in recognition of the health concerns. It is possible to make change happen for the better! • Give everyone in safe houses the right to vote.
I have found it impossible to register to vote as I live in a Safe House in Bristol. With the local elections happening right now, and the EU referendum coming up, I'm left without a vote, without a voice, without a say on local Councillor appointment, City Mayor, the Police Crime Commissioner position or whether we stay in or out of the EU. My struggle to register made me realise this is a huge issue that no one even realises. As I live in a safe house it is vital for my safety that my name and address do not appear on the electoral register. The current system does provide an 'anonymous registration' process designed to protect vulnerable or at risk people who can't disclose their residential address. However this form requires evidenced approval through proven Court Injunction, written signature from a Police Superintendent or Adult Social Services management. For many in my situation, (estimated at 70% of all residents in Bristol safe houses by support staff here) their registration would not be eligible for sign off. Taking away the civil right, human right that was fought so hard for back in 1918 that introduced the 'Representation of the People Act' allowing women the right to vote. Across England there are over 250 independent refuges providing safe emergency accommodation for people fleeing domestic abuse. Thousands of people living in secure residential accommodation where location secrecy is of utmost importance. Thousands of people who will not be able to register to vote. That is a huge number of women being denied basic Human Rights. The Human Rights Act (1998) states "it is unlawful for public authority to act in a way which is incompatible with European Convention right". Safe houses and refuges by their very nature ensure all residents staying with them are in need of safety and security after leaving abuse. Therefore having management level able to sign the anonymous registration form is more than enough evidence for each residents need for anonymity. Such a simple solution for such an important change that needs to be made. Please sign and share this petition so we can no longer be kept in silence. Thank you.

  • Stop the eviction of the Brentford Houseboat Community
This Will: Save the council an estimated £4 million pounds to spend on schools ect Stop the environmental destruction of an essential tidal stretch of the Thames Save the valuable kingfisher and heron nesting sites Stop the reduction of the size Watermans park to make way for a car Park Save a valued community of local residents Reduce the gentrification of a once diverse area of London This thriving community of Brentford residents have lived and worked in this area for up to 20 years. We are being forced out by Hounslow Borough Council because this area has become a magnate for developers. Selling over priced glass boxes often to overseas investors, changing the character of this historic part of West London. We are not against change and want to be included in the regeneration of the area. These boats are our homes, much loved and in some cases Nationally reconsidered historic vessels with some of them making valuable contributions to one or both war efforts. Please help us convince the council to adopt our low cost, low environmentally impacting solution and save our much loved homes.
