• We declare Scotland a free and independent state.
During the 2014 independence referendum campaign, during the last few days, the UK Government effectively changed the terms of the referendum by offering new powers to the people of Scotland if they voted no. This effectively changed the question from a yes/no question, to a yes/more powers question, therefore it is unclear what the result may have been, had the UK Government played fair. One of the primary arguments in 2014, was that in order to remain a member of the European Union, Scots had to vote no to independence. However since then, the UK Government have held a referendum on EU membership, and despite 62% of people in Scotland voting to remain in the EU, our sovereign nation is being dragged out of the EU anyway. The people of Scotland deserve better. While a second class state, as a part of the United Kingdom, Scotland's voice is smaller. There are 533 English MPs in Westminster and only 59 Scottish MPs. Scotland's voice is therefore drowned out constitutionally in the UK Parliament. The Claim of Right 1989, states that the people of Scotland are sovereign, therefore the sovereignty of the people of Scotland is incompatible with the UK system, which has a hereditary head of state, and unelected Lords and Ladies ruling over us, and the majority of the MPs in Westminster were not voted for by the people of Scotland, but by the people of a foreign country. Scotland's economic capabilities are in a stranglehold whilst a part of the UK. Our economic potential is massive, when you compare other countries in the world with far less natural resources and industry than Scotland, yet their people are suffering from less poverty, and their countries are more fair for the 99%. It is clear that Scotland would do things differently if we were to be an independent country. For example, all but one Scottish MP voted against the renewal of Trident, the nuclear deterrent, but Scotland's voice was over ruled by the representatives of a foreign country. If this were truly an equal union, then Scotland would have the power to veto our involvement in things that we do not agree with.

  • Stop Next using really thin models
I was horrified when looking at the Next website so see how very thin some of the models are. Girls today are bombarded with images of unattainable ideals, leading them to all sorts of issues with body image and self confidence. These are not the role models I want for my children. By using these models, Next is condoning this as an aspirational way to be. As a society, we have girls struggling with self image and then companies hold this up as both normal and desirable - most girls would have serious medical problems if they were this size. Anorexia is an illness. Sufferers need help, not the reinforcement that this gives. I am certainly not saying that fashion should be forced to use large models. Slim is healthy. Emaciated is not. Please sign, and through tackling a large high street name, show the fashion idustry that this is not what we, as consumers, want.

  • Save historic green space in Meriden
Meriden Hall and it's landscaped grounds is a historic Grade 2* listed site, English Heritage have no objection to Pertemps erecting a new glass building which is bigger than Meriden Hall itself, removing trees and wildlife habitat - destroying a historic green space which will be gone forever for future generations. This seems particularly poignant following the centenary year of WW1 as it was the home of Captain Edward Bankes who lived at Meriden Hall with tributes to him shaping the history of the village (there's a link to his story further down the page). This development won't create any new jobs, so there's no benefit for the greater good, and there is a huge amount of empty office space across the Midlands. Green belt should only be built on in 'exceptional circumstances', and English Heritage are wrong, this building shouldn't even be a consideration. Sign the petition and if you've got more to say, you can also object to: [email protected] quoting application 2014/2232 More info and pictures of the proposal at: http://ww2.solihull.gov.uk/planning_new/dc/ViewApp.asp - then enter the year: 2014; Application no: 2232 An artist's impression can be viewed here - this has been rendered to only show the narrowest end of the building, and play down the actual scale (it is bigger than Meriden Hall itself) to make the development look more 'sympathetic' http://ww2.solihull.gov.uk/PlanAppDocs/2014/2232/2232_design_and_access_statement.pdf The closing date on the application doesn't give enough time for the committee to view objections properly, so please sign or object by the end of January. • Say Yes to school age changes in Redditch
It has been proven that primary schools (to the end of key stage 2 at year 6) are considered the best opportunity for children to access good quality education with the benefit of continuity. Transferring at year 7 gives more time for them to make informed choices for exams in year 11. The change will also drive continuous and sustained improvement of our education system, benefiting all our children. We trust the vision and leadership of our governing bodies and senior management teams to affect the change with minimal disruption and to deliver the best possible education for our children now,  and in the future.

  • Asda Should Apologise to Scotland!
Asda released a statement less than a week before the referendum on Scottish independence stating prices will rise in an independent Scotland. This clearly will have affected how people voted and I would suspect more so among pensioners many of whom are vulnerable. It is important that corporate businesses do not use their position to influence the public by making statements intended to affect the outcome of a democratic vote. Andy Clarke should apologise for releasing a statement intended to affect the outcome of the referendum on Scottish independence and give assurance that Asda will never publicise another statement which is likely to affect the outcome of the democratic process. Andy Clarke will be presented with the choice, admit that you had no justification in what you said on behalf of Asda or watch the power of social media take you down.

  • keep our lollipop man
Safety for our children. Alan has become well known and liked by both children and adults alike, he always has a friendly smile and a wave to give weather you are walking or driving to school. He provides a much needed service at a crucial crossing point, with a much needed smile come morning and night. It is my personal experience that I am unable to cross my 2 young children across the road as there is no dropped curb, I have to use a mobility scooter to take my children to school and have to go onto the road to be able to get on and off the path, Alan safely crosses my children for me and the proceeds to aid in my crossing too.

  • KEEP HOLLINS VIEW OPEN
Hollins View provides residential respite and short-term breaks. Intermediate Care beds for people leaving hospital and day care services to over 400 people a year. Cheshire East plans to close Hollins View and transfer care to the Private Sector. There is already a shortage of care beds in Macclesfield and the closure of Hollins View could result in people having to travel out of the area, or for some people, no help at all. Carers save Cheshire East thousands of pounds a year caring for their loved ones 24 hours a day seven days a week and sometimes need a break to enable them to carry on caring. If Hollins View closes they could be left unsupported. This service is vital to Carers and to their loved ones. SEND A MESSAGE TO THE LEADERS AT CHESHIRE EAST COUNCIL AND DAVID RUTLEY MP THAT HOLLINS VIEW IS A VITAL AND NECESSARY SERVICE AND MUST NOT CLOSED.
