  • STOP THE BEDROOM TAX
We have a serious cost of living crisis, the poor cannot afford to even pay for food & heating, yet they are paying a bedroom tax, to keep a roof over their heads. They are going to food banks in this rich country. Yet £60 To £80 Per Month, could feed these people. Plus help them to keep warm during the winter months. The bedroom tax needs to be abolished. It’s dead money to pay out, for people who are struggling to afford to live. We have a serious cost of living crisis, a recession. This is just adding to the stress and or mental health, plus disabled people who seriously cannot afford to pay their bedroom tax, but who have to pay, to keep a roof over their heads. It’s a very cruel tax, especially as we are all suffering from a cost of living crisis problem.

  • NHS Coil Removal Waiting Times Are As Long As A Year
Since the summer I have been making contact with my local GP to book an appointment to have my current coil (expiring in November) replaced. I was made aware by female family/friends that I should make contact with my GP as far in advance as possible as the waiting list for the coil is extremely long. After calling my GP in the summer I was told that I had made contact too early and I should call again one/two months in advance to book in. I followed these instructions and was eventually added to the coil waiting list in September. After chasing up my case in October and then again in early November I was informed by the administrator in charge of the 'Coil waiting list' on both occasions that she could still not offer me an appointment as there are still no slots available. I raised my concern about the fact my coil is now expiring in a matter of weeks and as a result I wouldn't be protected from getting pregnant unless my husband and I use condoms. The clinician advised that there is nothing she could do about getting me an appointment any earlier as the waiting list is very long and there are only two practitioners who take appointments for the coil. I asked if she could give me any sort of time frame as to how long I would have to continue with my expired coil and she couldn't give me an answer. In an attempt to be proactive, I made contact with my local Sexual Health Clinic to enquire if I could make an appointment with them to have my coil removed. They informed me that this is not a service they offer anymore and I needed to make an appointment with my GP. I have since researched the 'NHS coil waiting list' and found that it can be as long as 6 months to a year women have to wait to have their coil removed. More clinicians in GP practice need to become qualified to take appointments relating to the coil. The 'NHS coil waiting list' is an issue directly related to female empowerment. The current system within the NHS is completely ineffective and has personally left me feeling completely out of control of my own body. Choosing the correct method of contraception is an extremely important issue that every woman in the UK goes through at some point during their life. As a married woman in my late 20's, I am settled with a long term partner but not yet ready to start a family. The coil is the correct method of contraception for me at this stage of my life, however I am unable to access it. Furthermore I have a coil that will be expiring imminently and I am unable to book an appointment to have it removed in time, and there is absolutely no time scale that can be provided by my GP as to when I will get an appointment. Women in the UK should not have to wait for this ridiculous amount of time to gain access to contraception. Not only is the process of trying to get an appointment for the coil emotionally draining and exasperating, it is unbelievable that we are in 2022 and women in this country are left to feel completely out of control in matters to do with their own body.

  • FIFA, Come Clean on your "Carbon Neutral" Claims
From kick-abouts in the park, to Premier League derby days and the World Cup Final, football’s a game of courage, teamwork and fierce loyalty. And with its ability to capture the hearts and minds of billions of fans across every corner of the globe, football has an unrivalled opportunity to lead and inspire action to protect and improve the world we live in by harnessing the values that make it the beautiful game. When it comes to climate change, that opportunity is one we can’t afford to pass up. Record-breaking heat waves, flooding and poor air quality are already impacting the sport we love and depriving both young players and fans of a future in which football thrives. Without ambitious and immediate action, climate change’s grip on football’s future will tighten. Globally, we have seen sporting events and tournaments postponed due to extreme heat, players withdrawing because of the dangers of pollution and heat exhaustion, and the legacies of international sporting events vanishing as climate change creates conditions that make sport impossible to play. Climate change is the opponent we must tackle - and we’re already deep into extra time. Whatever shirt we wear or chant we sing, we’ve got everything to gain from taking action. That’s why at the World Cup - the biggest stage in world football - we want to see real leadership from our governing bodies, using football’s unrivalled platform to set the bar for future tournaments. But, instead of taking this golden chance, FIFA’s currently set itself up to miss its best shot at goal. In just a couple of weeks, the FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar will kick off. The tournament has been labelled as the first “fully carbon neutral FIFA World Cup tournament”, meaning its overall impact on the planet should be zero. But that’s not true. In reality, FIFA’s sustainability strategy for the Qatar World Cup rests on flawed carbon calculations, questionable offsetting practices, and shifting the responsibility onto fans rather than shouldering it themselves. As criticism mounts around shameful human rights violations in Qatar, carbon neutrality claims are being used as a distraction. Players, fans and the planet deserve better. Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time, with action taken this decade defining the future of the planet - and FIFA is well placed to lead by example. With its enormous global profile at the very top of international football, FIFA has an unmatched opportunity to provide leadership where we need it most. A report from Carbon Market Watch earlier this year casts serious doubt over FIFA’s claims of carbon-neutrality, and questions the quality, transparency and integrity of the offsetting practices put in place for the World Cup in Qatar. This petition is for football fans, players, clubs and organisations to call on FIFA to withdraw their claims around carbon neutrality and take a more robust and responsible approach to future World Cups, only using offsets as a last resort. #FIFAComeClean

  • New police station for Sutton-in-Ashfield
As residents of Sutton-in-Ashfield and surrounding areas, we want a properly funded and resourced police station with more officers on the streets. Due to Conservative cuts and mismanagement by the Ashfield Independent led administration, crimes in Sutton have risen 22% and we have lost 34 police officers in the area. This has had a severe impact on the area locally and has left local people having to wait longer for responses and has led to increased levels of anti-social behaviour. We have also seen drugs and burglary related problems develop in surrounding areas such as Stanton Hill, Teversal and Skegby. This is only possible through a new police station for Sutton-in-Ashfield which is properly staffed and resourced. Local people are fed up with the rising levels of crime in Sutton and surrounding areas. Everyone should feel safe in their community and the best way to do that is to introduce a new police station in Sutton.

  • Stop the Stamp Expiry
People have better things to do with their time than round up all their existing old stamps, complete a form and submit them for new style stamps. Many people will have bulk bought in order to protect themselves from future price rises, on the understanding that they would be valid forever. Now Royal Mail is moving the goal posts by making them expire and has wasted a vast sum of money organising an exchange system and producing publicity; this at a time when the organisation is making a loss. People should not be forced to waste time exchanging their stamps, making sure they have submitted them all and then being in a situation where they find some after the expiry date and they are worthless.

  • Ban the sale of all fireworks that are not low-noise
Firework noise distresses animals, both domestic and livestock. It can also be upsetting for humans. In many communities, autumn fireworks can be heard nightly for a week or more. Let's make only low-noise fireworks available to buy. Alternatively, or as well, restrict firework sales to public bodies for use at safe municipal displays.

  • Sunak go to COP27
COP27 at Sharm al Sheikh is potentially the last chance for the world's nations to come together to massively reduce CO2 emissions in the coming years, and therefore to prevent the coming climate catastrophe that we are already seeing in floods, droughts, heat waves making human life impossible. UK has taken a lead in this at last year's Glasgow summit, please sustain the UK's leading role in the struggle against catastrophic climate change.

  • NHS to prioritise carer needs
Dear Steve, I am a carer for my father who has terminal lymphoma. At every touch point within the NHS the objective of avoiding hospital admissions when possible is highlighted. I am also keen to avoid this as on the last two admissions to our local hospital Arrowe Park, Wirral, he came out in a worse condition than when he came in - a story for another time. With this in mind I was highly disappointed with the treatment I received whilst trying to get an out of hours prescription for migraine medication I desperately needed. This medication would have cured my migraine within an hour. I used NHS 111 - the front line staff were excellent, as were the clinicians. However the GP service was unacceptable. The first contact prescribed the wrong drugs and the second was unable to handle the fact that I was raising my voice due to extreme pain, sleep deprivation and frustration. When she accused me of harassment I had to hang up to protect myself from exploding. I deal with frustrated people on regularly as a mental health advocate. I have the skill set to manage their behaviour. This woman did not in any way shape or form. Finally the last GP I spoke to revealed that the first "doctor" i spoke to was actually a nurse and that as a nurse he did not count her as one of his colleagues!!! Out dated beyond belief. As it was I had a migraine from 11pm Friday until 6pm Sunday. My symptoms are very severe. I can't move out of a dark room. I can't keep fluids or food down and I am at high risk of not being able to keep down the medication to manage my own illness, bipolar disorder. If this happened my own risk of hospital admission is very high. If the first doctor had prescribed the correct drugs as discussed I would have been fine by Saturday 10am not Sunday evening. This failure cost me £250 in additional care and meant I lost valuable "me" time. It would have been avoided if my needs had been prioritised in allocation of GP out of hours time. Each 111 staff member and clinician understood that because I was ill, the person I was caring for was vulnerable and at risk of hospital admission. Luckily I have the means to employ extra support. Many carers do not have this luxury. If you could raise this issue as a matter of urgency I would be extremely grateful. Many thanks Briony Davies
