• stop young mum being kicked out
my sister turned 21 just days before our mum passed away, now on top of having to come to terms with our loss we have been told my sister and her 2 young children will have to leave their home as it was a council property in my mums name. This just doesn't make sense, she is entitled to a 2 bed council property, that's what shes living in, Corby council want to move her into another 2 bed property and give her house to someone else for absolutely no reason we can find. Not only will this cause stress to my sister and her family it will also involve alot of extra work for the council. How can this be a justifiable way of spending tax payers money?

  • Revoke the "Rape Clause"
The new government policies that came into force yesterday have been assessed as pushing an extra 200,000 children into poverty. One of the changes effectively punishes the 3rd child and treats them differently to their older siblings. It also places unbearable pressure on the mother to put in an official form whether she has been raped or not. Given that most rapes go unreported, or do not reach court due to the high attrition rates for sexual offences, how exactly are women in this position supposed to be able to prove their rape? How many women will choose not apply rather than relive the trauma of the assault? This new approach also penalises parents who already have a 3rd child, and who may need state support in the future due to their circumstances changing. Only their first 2 children are eligible for financial support, again effectively discriminating against the 3rd child. This is blatantly unfair, and against the rights of the child and the mother. It's crucial that this change is challenged and if necessary taken through the courts and all the way to the ECHR- for the sake of children and families. This needs to be challenged by all political parties to send a strong signal to the Government that it cannot get away with treating its citizens in this cruel and inhuman way.

  • Revoke the rape clause and 2 child limit to tax credits.
Child poverty is leading cause of poor life chances and without the vital support of tax credits and universal credit child element many children will suffer hunger, social exclusion, deprivation. These policies unfairly attack women and children and cut the link between need and social security.

  • Temple Newsam Park - say NO to Go Ape!
Temple Newsam Park is a free public park to be enjoyed by everyone. Should these plans go ahead, some areas of the park may be restricted, especially entry/exits to the equipment, the noise from participants will spoil the peaceful calm currently enjoyed. Parking is also an issue, especially at weekends - there just arent enough spaces to accommodate this - any new parking areas would mean taking more of the green available space of the park. Road access to the park will be put under further pressure. There is the issue of felling existing trees to make way for this, disturbance to the natural wild life and bird life living in the park. Temple Newsam is beautiful as it is, it does not need enhancing, please sign the petition in support.

  • Free sanitary products for girls
So it's not so scary when it first happens and it will promote good health and hygiene information for them also encourage young girls to talk about it. Also give them a choice of which products suit them. Everyone is different and will need different products. So much choice out there and it can be daunting. This would ensure all girls are treated the same from the start with the same information to help them too.
