• Women's Rights in Iran
A young woman last week committed suicide [set herself on fire] while waiting for her court case rather than face six months in prison . Her crime - attending a football match. This is not allowed in Iran. So too is for women to sing solo or dance on their own. There are many other rules in Iran that disallow women equal rights .

  • top-up cards for the rough sleepers
This is important because it is part of their human rights to be entitled to food as well as shelter. We are targeting the food side of it because it will make these people feel like their is a bit more hope and it will help them on their way to regaining a normal life. The cards will be funded by either Peterborough City Council or central government and will make a big difference to many rough sleepers' lives. https://www.youthforhumanrights.org/what-are-human-rights/universal-declaration-of-human-rights/articles-16-30.html

  • Bristol City Council to Support and Respect the Rights of Van Dwellers
This petition represents a defence of the van-dwelling lifestyle. While the community is very diverse, and many have been pushed into the lifestyle in the face of the housing crisis, it remains a cultural choice and/or is of economic necessity for many van-dwellers whose lives revolve around this mode of dwelling. It is also worth noting here that many people have been born into this lifestyle and wish to preserve their way of life and deserve respect for their cultural differences. Councils have an obligation to promote equality and tackle discrimination. The policy is felt to be disproportionately aligned with the needs of one community – the “settled” community – at the expense of another: the van-dwelling community.

  • Sanction America for their cruelty to immigrant children.
Children have already died in the cages at the southern border. Children are still in cages, even though the US government have been told to do something about it. The children are only supposed to be incarcerated for a maximum of 20 days - this has not been the case. This human caging of children has been going on for over a year, and now the US government want to cage the children (and families) indefinitely. The UK government needs to act and show the rest of the world that President Trump and his administration are cruel and heartless and we, as decent human beings, do not agree with such unfair and ruthless treatment of our fellow men, women and children. Sanction the US and hopefully other decent countries will follow suit.

  • NHS Surcharge Fees
It is important so applicants that have family in the UK don't go into debt and are not able to feed their family whenever they extend their stay because the renewal fees is almost 2 months worth of their wages.

  • Tell us where our school uniforms come from
Trutex is one of the UK’s oldest suppliers of school uniforms. They produce uniforms and sportswear for thousands of schools across the UK and worldwide. This important company, which often has a monopoly on producing uniforms at many schools, does not provide any information at all on where their clothes are made. This needs to change. Trutex’s website offers vague promises of a commitment to ethical production and assurances that its production sites are well managed and safe. Yet unlike many other brands who have published lists of where their factories are located, Trutex remain silent and provide absolutely no evidence that what they say is true. Garment and shoe supply chains are hugely complex and brands often hide the data about where their clothes are made. What we do know for a fact however is that unsafe working conditions, extremely low wages and suppression of unions are found in many factories and workshops. Trutex has a sourcing office in Bangladesh where wages and conditions are very poor. Rumana, 26, is a worker in factory there and tells a typical story of garment workers' life. She said: ‘We have two school going children. Life is very expensive in this city. My children complain because I have to work very long hours, but if I do not work extra hours I will have to send my family back to the village to live with my mother. I have no way open other than doing the only job I know.' More publicly available information on the supply chains of major companies can go a long way towards improving human rights. What you know, you can change. In the last few years as transparency in supplier factories worldwide has increased, respect and protection for worker rights has become more possible. Trutex needs to step up and be honest, open and transparent about where its factories are as the first step to ensuring uniforms are made with safety and respect.
